We’ve seen all kinds of problems with the Secret Service’s coverage of the Butler, Pennsylvania rally that ended in an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed in the shooting and two other Trump supporters were injured.
As our sister site Townhall reportedThe Secret Service only admitted on Saturday that it had rejected requests from the Trump department for resources for two years, although it had previously stated on July 1 that no resources had been rejected.
The Secret Service acknowledged Saturday that it had rejected requests for additional federal funding in the two years leading up to last week’s attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump, contradicting earlier statements in which it had denied that such requests had been rejected.
Almost immediately after a gunman shot Trump from the roof of a nearby warehouse as he spoke at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last weekend, the Secret Service was accused by Republicans and anonymous law enforcement officials of rejecting requests for additional agents to protect Trump’s rallies.
“There is a false allegation that a member of the former president’s team requested additional funds and was denied them,” Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesman, said last Sunday, a day after the shooting.
[…]
On Saturday, Guglielmi confirmed that the Secret Service had denied some requests for additional federal security funding for Trump’s personnel. Two people briefed on the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed that the Trump campaign had sought additional funding during most of the time Trump was out of office. The denied requests for additional funding did not specifically relate to the rally in Butler, Guglielmi said.
That’s exactly the problem. And many people have pointed that out, including Republican Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida.

Now there is even more disturbing news. I wrote about RealClearPolitics’ Susan Crabtree’s report that they had allocated resources for Jill Biden’s visit to Pittsburgh and not for the Butler rally. Now there is more information from Crabtree.
🚨🚨EXCLUSIVE: Internal Secret Service documents show that only three post standers were assigned at Trump’s rally, while there were 12 at Jill Biden’s event

After claiming to have increased security measures around former President Donald Trump, Iranian assassination attempt on himFor Trump’s fateful July 13 rally in Pennsylvania, the Secret Service provided only three agency employees to assist him with the “post-standing” action. By comparison, First Lady Jill Biden received 12 employees at a dinner in nearby Pittsburgh that same evening, according to emails exchanged between and among Secret Service employees obtained by RealClearPolitics.
The Secret Service typically assigns special agents from a candidate’s department, or “shift agents” in Secret Service parlance, to posts within an inner perimeter of an event. The middle perimeter is then patrolled by agents brought in from local Secret Service field offices and assigned as “post standers” to specific locations and responsible for the security of specific target areas.
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is now demanding answers and a list of all those who provided security ahead of the House Oversight Committee hearing scheduled for Monday, where lawmakers will question Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle. He cited emails showing that there were only three post-standers for Trump and 12 post-standers for Jill Biden.
This is crazy. You have a former president who had a lot of threats made against him, mainly because of the demonization by the Democrats. There was actually an Iranian threat. And yet they gave Jill more details if this report is true.
This is a gigantic problem, and the way they are handling Trump’s security needs to be improved immediately. Cheatle needs to resign, but more than that, everything that went on here needs to be exposed and addressed, and people need to be held accountable.
