The victim of the Trump assassination attempt has a “sad, passionate” message to America

On July 13, a former President of the United States and Republican presidential candidate for 2024 survived an assassination attempt while addressing a crowd at a campaign rally. It likely would have cost him his life had he not inexplicably turned his head to the right. That was and is profound.

And yet, in America today, the attempt on Donald Trump has been politicized like no other – successful or not – on the life of a president, presidential candidate or former president in the history of this country.

Will we ever know the true motive of the man who tried to kill Trump?

James Copenhaver, one of the two victims seriously injured in the attack, is “sad” about the country’s “political division,” said attorney Joseph Feldman, who spoke on Copenhaver’s behalf as he recovers.

Feldman told Fox News Digital on Wednesday:

Overall, he just wants to make people realize how unnecessary it was and that the political divide in this country has become so wide [that] People are literally willing to attend rallies where they exercise their right to free speech and shoot into the crowd.

With all due respect to Mr Copenhaver, the country’s political division is far more than “unnecessary.” It is destructive on multiple levels. It is obscene and will likely get worse before it has any chance of getting better.

Feldman spoke about Copenhagen’s lifelong view of America.

He’s 74 years senior. He’s been around a long time. He’s seen a lot of what’s happened in this country. And this is definitely one of the worst things he’s experienced as an American, and he wants people to understand that it doesn’t have to be this way.

With all due respect, there are – and have always been throughout recorded history – things that “don’t have to be that way.” In countless examples, those who seek to destroy the status quo intentionally create or cause things that “don’t have to be that way.” This is exactly what we are seeing now with the fanatical left.

Feldman said Copenhaver remains an unabashed Trump supporter.

[He] is not afraid to voice his support for Trump, and he will not allow those who disagree with his views to silence him or prevent him from exercising his rights.

He also described details of Copenhaver’s memory of the assassination when it happened.

He had almost heard or even seen something whizz past them that we assume was a bullet. And he… looked down at his arm and… felt pain at first, but he didn’t even realize at that point that he had been shot a second time. He had mentioned that he was pretty much in shock at that point. There was a lot of confusion. People were screaming. No one knew immediately what was going on.

I am at a loss for words here.

Feldman said Copenhaver felt like he was talking to a friend when he described his phone call with the former president after the incident.

It was a very pleasant conversation. He had mentioned that it was almost like [Trump] was in the room with him. It was like he was talking to a friend… just someone who can keep a conversation going. So a very fluid conversation. Overall, he really enjoyed the phone call and we hope that he can call us again sometime or maybe even visit us in person.

It’s incredibly ironic that before Copenhaver was shot, he filmed the assassin getting into position. The video went viral on social media on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Looney Tunes band continues playing.
