Good morning and welcome to RedState’s Morning Minute – a quick look at what’s trending today and a look ahead to what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to start your day with.
BEST MORNING
Biden’s reaction to the killing of the Hamas leader is unbelievable
But Biden didn’t want to pull the trigger on Bin Laden either. He’s the man we (supposedly) have in power right now.
CNN reporter tries to provoke JD Vance with racist arguments and a master class follows
That’s one reason Democrats are attacking Vance so fiercely, even though the vice presidential choice isn’t usually a top priority. Whether or not he was technically the “best” choice, they fear him and know there’s a debate coming up where he’ll shine.
Huge uproar breaks out at vigil after knife attacker identified as Muslim
This is not just about the brutal murder of three little girls. It is about the people of a country waking up and realising that it is too tardy and that what has happened cannot be undone.
WHAT IS ON OFFER?
Today on Capitol Hill…
All is peaceful on Capitol Hill on Friday as both the House and Senate officially head into their August recess. (I miss summer vacation a lot, don’t you?) Today, however, there is a public hearing: The House Natural Resources Committee is holding a “public hearing entitled ‘From Rig to Restoration: Examining Gulf Coast Restoration Through Energy Production and Permitting'” this afternoon in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
White House, what’s going on
It will also be a peaceful day in the White House, as President Joe Biden’s schedule currently only includes his departure for Wilmington, Delaware, at lunchtime. To be fair, however, he stayed up tardy on Thursday to greet the Americans liberated from Russia at the US base in Andrews.
Full speed ahead…
Justin Timberlake is should be renegotiated in Sag Harbor, New York, on Friday in his drunken driving case after a paperwork issue was discovered related to the original charge against him. Timberlake will be allowed to appear for the hearing virtually.
Of highest importance
The recount of the Republican primary in Virginia’s fifth congressional district has been completed and the result was the same (minus four votes): State Senator John McGuire narrowly defeated incumbent Bob Good and won.
Tennessee Thursday area code brought few surprises: Incumbent Senator Marsha Blackburn easily won the Republican primary and will face Democrat Gloria Johnson in November. Republican Representative Andy Ogles faced a battle for his seat in the Fifth District, but was able to win against Courtney Johnston. And the same goes for Democrat Steve Cohen in the Ninth District.
MORNING THOUGHTS
I think if my days weren’t so messed up right now, I’d be glad it’s Friday. One thing that definitely doesn’t mess me up is that I’m glad the Missouri primary is next Tuesday, and maybe – hopefully – after that we’ll have a break from the nonstop (and generally silly) political ads, mails, robocalls, texts, emails, etc. Yes, there’s still the general election in November, but one of the (several) nice things about living in a state where Democrats are solidly in the party is that the primaries are the real campaign for most races. I’m long past that.
