After a relatively disciplined start to the campaign, Kamala Harris continues to prove that she is, in fact, still Kamala Harris. The choice of Tim Walz as her running mate was a reminder that, despite all efforts to portray her as a great politician, she is not a great politician.

This was largely hidden because the mainstream media not only sang her praises but also stood by and watched as Harris refused to singles question about her run for president. All the backroom deals and primaries that got her to this point might as well not have existed. Still, it was only a matter of time before Harris’ worst instincts resurfaced.
Case in point? Harris released this video in which she “calls” Walz and asks him to be her vice presidential running mate.

This is one of those cases where it’s pointless to transcribe the video. I could type out what’s being said, but anyone who can’t press play won’t understand what makes the video so incredible. The cackle? It’s there. The odd tone Harris often uses, as if she’s talking to a child? It’s there. The dead giveaway that she’s reading a script about halfway through the video? That’s there too. Walz’s performance isn’t much better, sitting on a porch wearing a camouflage hat and obviously going way too strenuous to signal that he’s “working class.”

It’s so counterfeit and over-produced that many people online initially wondered if it was a parody. After all, with the proliferation of AI, anything is possible. But no, it’s real and not spectacular. It’s just embarrassing and a reminder of how wrong Harris is.
Besides, who on her campaign team still thinks these videos are a good idea? Do they think we can’t tell they’re professionally shot, heavily scripted, and meticulously detailed with focus groups? Are we supposed to believe that cameras happened to be present when she made the call? I’m not sure Saturday Night Live could do anything funnier if they tried.
Three months before Election Day, the real Harris will emerge. She can’t hide who she is, no matter how strenuous her advisers try to keep it secret. That’s good news for Republicans, or at least it should be if they can take advantage of it. That’s an open question, as always.
