The story being peddled is that Democrats and their propaganda arm, aka the media, are as excited as can be about the Kamala Harris/Tim Walz presidential candidacy. And all of that excitement will be on full display in just over a week, when the Democratic National Convention begins on August 19. But it doesn’t look like every single Democrat is behind the Harris/Walz candidacy. Those who are all in will show up with bells, but more compelling may be those who don’t show up.

Several Democrats in seats that are still undecided in November have curiously decided to skip this year’s convention in Chicago. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Jon Tester (D-MT) have stated that they will not attend the convention. Senator Jackie Rosen (D-NV) is scheduled to attend a campaign rally with Kamala Harris on Saturday, but has also stated that she will not attend the convention.
The 2024 elections are less than 100 days away, and things are getting more and more exhilarating in both Ohio and Montana. In the Buckeye State, Sherrod Brown is is only four points on his GOP opponent Bernie Moreno. In Montana, Tester opponent Tim Sheehyhas a two-point lead. In Nevada, Rosen depends on a three-point lead over Army veteran Sam Brown.
The Senate is not the only place where lawmakers in tight election campaigns have other things to do during the week of the convention. Democratic representatives Yadira Caraveo (D-CO), Jared Golden (D-ME), Josh Harder (D-CA) and Marie Gluesenkamp (D-WA) will also stay away from the convention festivities. They are all among a handful of lawmakers in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) are filling seats that need a little aid to stay in the “D” column in November. Others on the list say they don’t have final timelines yet.

It might just be one of those things that makes you say, “Hmmm…” Why wouldn’t all the Democrats head to Chicago in a week? Kamala Harris was nominated as the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden dropped out. give them a boost in the polls and give the campaign as a whole some much-needed momentum. But with Republicans’ goal not only to retake the White House but also to win back the Senate and gain a larger lead in the House, more moderate Democrats, at risk, appear unwilling to take any chances at a convention that promises to be the most left-wing ever.
Moderate Democrats are a dying breed. If you’re a Joe Manchin Democrat, you’re being pushed out of a party that’s rapidly moving further left. Harris and Walz are both for things like abortion on demand and the trillion-dollar Green New Deal. Those things probably wouldn’t go over well in Sherrod Brown’s Ohio, where inflation, putting food on the table, and filling gas tanks are at the top of the list.
Could it be that this group of lawmakers knows the priorities of their constituents and knows that they don’t agree with Kamala Harris’ priorities and therefore don’t want to be seen as supporters of her most radical views? They also know that the surge in the polls and enthusiasm could be very fleeting as more of their positions on the issues, as well as those of their running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, come to featherlight.
According to “The Hill,” Republicans have a majority of 78 percent Chance to win the Senate and a 61 percent chance of winning the House of Representatives. Not overwhelming numbers, but enough to keep senators and representatives in risky districts from showing up to a convention where there is a possibility that God could be booed. When the votes are counted in Chicago, there will likely be a significant number of Democrats unwilling to die on the Harris/Walz hill.
Democratic Senators Jon Tester (MT) and Sherrod Brown (OH) are both not attending the DNC convention.
Both are very vulnerable incumbents in the Senate. Interesting decision.
