The Democrats are all (or most) in Chicago celebrating their joy and newfound love for Kamala Harris. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) addressed the DNC crowd on Tuesday night. He is swear Making “voting rights” a top priority in 2025, when Democrats control Congress. (Because of Jim Crow 2.0 or something.) Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida is celebrating an effortless victory in Tuesday’s primary over a challenger handpicked by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. In Alaska, meanwhile, incumbent Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola secured over 50 percent of the vote in the primary and will face Republicans Nick Begich and Nancy Dahlstrom in November — as well as a fourth candidate to be named later, since the next candidate has fewer than 600 votes.
White House, what’s going on
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill continue their vacation in Santa Ynez, California. Just…don’t ask where they are housed, who covers the costs or whether there are ethical concerns.
The home stretch
It’s Day 3 of the DNC for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Walz will speak Wednesday night, as will former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Bill Clinton. Yay!
Former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, will Visit Asheboro, North Carolina, on Wednesday to discuss national security.
Full speed ahead…
Wednesday is the gigantic day for Hunter Biden in his California tax trial—or at least for his lawyers. (Hunter himself will not appear.) It’s the pretrial conference, which RedState’s Jennifer Van Laar will be attending. We’ll keep you updated on any fascinating developments on that front.
MORNING THOUGHTS
I consoled myself this morning with the knowledge that we’re more than halfway through the DNC. Only two more nights. It’s tough to watch and listen through gritted teeth, but we know it must be done. What struck me Tuesday night was the stark reminder – courtesy of Doug Emhoff, Michelle Obama, and Barack Obama – of how bad Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are as speakers. Biden in particular, since Harris can at least read semi-coherently from the teleprompter (and I expect she will Thursday night). I guess we’ll see tonight if ol’ Bill Clinton can still pull it off. He’ll certainly be more charming than his wife. (Low bar.) Anyway, yeah, we’re halfway there. Yay.
