CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has secured his spot on the ballot for the November 2024 race for WV Governor.
Morrisey defeated his five opponents in the Republican primary with 33% of the vote. He will now face Democratic candidate for Huntington Mayor Steve Williams and Mountain Party candidate Chase Linko-Looper in November. Both Williams and Linko-Looper were unopposed in the primary.
The other candidates in the Republican primary secured the following share of votes:
- Former WV Delegate Moore Capito 28%
- Businessman Chris Miller 20%
- WV Secretary of State Mac Warner 16%
- Kevin “KC” Christian 1%
- Mitch Roberts 1%
Morrisey held the position WV Attorney General since 2013, elected in 2012. During his term, Morisey was actively involved in the fight against the opioid epidemic, with settlements against pharmaceutical companies generating a record-breaking total of more than $1 billion in settlement money for counties and cities in West Virginia. after his Campaign website. Morrisey is also a concealed carry advocate in the Mountain State and a pro-life advocate. He says some of his other goals include promoting educational excellence, strengthening economic and workforce growth, expanding broadband connectivity and putting money back into the pockets of West Virginians.

Before joining WV AG, Morrisey had worked in a private law firm since 1992. He also served as deputy staff director and chief health care counsel for the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He is also a former professional tennis referee. Morrisey is a graduate of Rutgers College and Rutgers School of Law. His campaign website says he is married and has a daughter.
