You don’t have to be a particularly huge fan of former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) to smell a rat, and the stench of media-driven dissent is definitely in the air in the state’s closely watched Senate race.

As RedState previously reported, Hogan handily won Tuesday’s GOP Senate primary, as expected. What Was What happened in the Maryland primary came as a surprise to seasoned political observers, as Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks defeated Rep. David Trone for the Democratic nomination.

It was Trone Survey way ahead by Alsobrooks just a month ago and had poured over $60 million of his own money into the race. But it was a series of colossal (and costly) Mistake That included uttering a racial slur (which he later claimed was an accident) toward Shalanda Young, a Black Biden administration official, during a House hearing in April that most likely ultimately killed him.

With the path to Senate control potentially leading through Maryland, the talking points of the Democratic-leaning mainstream media have already become known, for example at Politico: proclaim that Hogan “stands between Alsobrooks and history” (Alsobrooks is black):

The headline has since been updated read “Angela Alsobrooks won a messy Senate primary. Now she’s running against Larry Hogan.” Concern over control of the Senate was also evident:

Republicans haven’t won a Senate seat in the deep blue state in more than four decades, but Hogan’s presence is turning a normally safe seat into a closely contested battleground that will squander key party resources. That could hurt Democrats’ attempt to maintain their tenuous control of the Senate, since every dollar spent in Maryland will not be spent defending vulnerable incumbents in several other key states.

Over at the National Journal Hotline, we’ve been informed that Hogan and Alsobrooks don’t look alike, which supposedly could be a big problem for Hogan, even though he’s already shown he can win statewide races in deep blue Maryland:

Last but not least were the Baltimore Sun’s editorial staff They said they think an Alsobrook win in the Maryland Senate race would be good in part because “maybe, just maybe, representing social progress doesn’t hurt.”

While Hogan will likely face an uphill battle in the general election race, it’s a shame that so much emphasis is already placed on race (and gender) and “making history” when it comes to where they stand on these issues .

This is a focus that will become even more prominent if Hogan fails to differentiate himself from Alsobrooks in any significant way, particularly when it comes to the independent and Democratic voters he has already appealed to court.
