Former Vice President Dick Cheney announced on Friday that he will definitely not vote for former President Donald Trump in November. In a statement dated “McLean, Virginia,” not Texas or Wyoming, the former vice president called Trump an existential threat to the republic.
In our country’s 248-year history, there has never been anyone who posed a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He attempted to rig the last election with lies and violence to cling to power after voters rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.
As citizens, we all have a duty to put country above party politics and defend our Constitution. That is why I will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The announcement was teased Earlier Friday, former Wyoming congresswoman and apparently former Republican Liz Cheney, while campaigning for Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s Democratic opponent, Colin Allred, said, “Dick Cheney will vote for Kamala Harris.” Liz Cheney endorsed Harris on Wednesday.

I am not sure when the last time a former president or vice president endorsed the candidate of another party was, so this may be an isolated event, but it is hardly historic. Neither Cheny nor former President George W. Bush endorsed Trump, but Cheney support Trump in 2016. He was not invited to the last two RNC meetings.
The support symbolizes a clear break between the zombie-like shell of a political party stumbling along in the wake of George W. Bush’s presidency and whatever the Republicans want to become. 200 former Bush, McCain and Romney loyalists have endorsed Harris; see Bush, McCain and Romney advisers made a move in the presidential campaign that did not generate the desired reaction. An unknown child of John McCain was paraded to change his party affiliation and declare his loyalty to Kamala.
In miniature, the establishment wing of the Republicans knows that with Trump’s victory, the fraud is over. They are panicking. And they will do anything to prevent that, even if it means looking like stupid opportunists.
