Outgoing West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner has done this repeatedly said that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump. His brother Kris Warner, who won the Republican nomination for the seat Tuesday night, says he has no way of knowing.
Kris Warner said the race was not stolen in West Virginia, where Mac Warner is responsible for overseeing the electoral process.
“The only thing we know, and this is a given, is that the election in West Virginia was not stolen,” Kris Warner said when asked about the 2020 election Tuesday night. “Mac has a unique set of experiences that he brings to the table, and I would never come forward and say I know more about what happened in other states.”
“I guess what I’m saying is that I’m not in a position to talk about what happened in other states,” Kris Warner said.
Kris Warner, executive director of the West Virginia Economic Development Authority, won the Republican primary with 46% of the vote over former Democrat Del. Doug Skaff with 21%.
“So the term ‘stolen’ is probably what’s being discussed,” Kris Warner said. “But I don’t think I’m qualified at this point to talk about what happened in other states and whether or not the election was stolen.”
Amid Trump’s repeated allegations of election fraud, his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, as Congress was meeting to certify the election results.
An Associated Press report on possible cases of voter fraud Fewer than 475 were found in the six battleground states Trump fought for in the 2020 election, a number that would have had no bearing on the outcome.
Mac Warner, who lost the Republican gubernatorial nomination to Attorney General Patrick Morrisey on Tuesday, said during a debate last year that the 2020 election was “stolen by the CIA.” Mac Warner also reportedly attended a pro-Trump rally after the 2020 election and held a “Stop the Steal” sign.
In the November general election, Kris Warner will face South Charleston attorney Thornton Cooper, who was the only Democrat in Tuesday’s primary. Cooper did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
