The city of Springfield, Ohio, is struggling with a enormous influx of Haitian immigrants who are in the country because the government has granted them fleeting protected status.

According to Mayor Rob Rue They’re seeing between 15,000 and 20,000 people moving into the city, which actually only has about 60,000 residents, and that’s putting a strain on the resources of the police, fire, health care and schools. He blames impoverished immigration policy. He said they’re just overwhelmed.

The problem is affecting people in the city, too, with a woman’s heartbreaking remarks at a city commission meeting last month now going viral.

“I’m fed up with what I see,” she said in an emotional voice.

“My neighborhood is so unsafe. There are homeless people trying to camp. I’ve compromised with them and I try to help them as much as I can so they don’t try to occupy my property. But it’s so unsafe. There are men in my front yard who don’t speak English yelling at me, throwing mattresses and trash in my front yard. And I can’t… look at me, I weigh 95 pounds. I couldn’t even fight back if I had to.”

She said her husband was venerable and had told her last night that after 45 years in their house, it was now “time to pack up and move” and that they could no longer do that because it was “killing them mentally.”

“I don’t know what you expect from us as citizens. I mean… I understand that they’re here under temporary protected status and that you’re protecting them. I understand that our city services are overwhelmed and understaffed.

Who will protect us if we protect them? Who will protect me?

I want to get out of this city. Please give me a reason to stay.”

It’s strenuous not to feel sorry for her. The response was to thank her for her comment, which doesn’t exactly sound like a reason to stay in such an untenable situation. There is no excuse for that; she has the right to feel unthreatening in her own home. She puts a real face to a problem that many in different cities are having to endure because of Biden and Harris’ failure to adequately address the immigration issue.

From Brooklyn to Colorado, we’ve heard stories from residents struggling with the problem.

The Biden-Harris team doesn’t care about the impact of their policies on the American people. For three years they not only denied the problems, but destroyed the border and made things worse by removing former President Donald Trump’s protections. Now, as the election approaches, they’ve finally realized what a bad issue this is for them. But that doesn’t make them any better, it just makes them try to shift the blame onto Republicans. They don’t take responsibility for their own actions.

But it’s all up to them.
