Nicole Shanahan criticizes Liz Warren’s miscarriage allegations – and warns against “spreaders of misinformation”

I keep saying this, but I’m growing more fond of Nicole Shanahan. I’d like to offer a cautionary note here: No, we don’t agree on everything, including some critical issues like abortion. But I’m not convinced she won’t change her mind on this, given her passion for children’s health. I was in my 30s when I left the pro-choice camp and went pro-life. The hearts and minds of people may be changed.

At least Shanahan has proven that she is pointed, witty and has a solid social media presence. Some of the ads her team has released since her running mate, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced that he was suspending his campaign and pledging his support to former President Donald Trump, have been excellent.

Nicole Shanahan does it again: “Who are the MAGA people really?”

Shanahan showed her courage again on Tuesday when she challenged Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren (D) over her claims in a tweet on X that women who suffer miscarriages would be unable to receive adequate medical care due to the Supreme Court’s overturning of the ruling. Roe v. Wade with the Dobbs Decision in 2022.

Warren’s tweet claims:

We live in a world where doctors have to tell women in the middle of a miscarriage that they cannot get the medical care they need because they are not close enough to death, and that they must wait a few more hours in the parking lot while their bleeding stops.

Donald Trump’s Supreme Court has done this.

In response, Shanahan asked:

Which state refuses to allow a curettage after a miscarriage? Why do so many women suffer fatal miscarriages? This is a massive claim from a US Senator and Hillary Clinton just called for criminal charges against those spreading misinformation. Be careful with your information, Mrs. Warren.

As Shanahan suggests, Hillary Clinton appeared on MSNBC just Monday night and apparently advocated prosecuting Americans who “spread propaganda.”

Warren seems to be referring to the case by Amber Nicole Thurman, whose story is widely shared by abortion advocates as an example of how abortion bans kill women. Jennifer Oliver O’Connell reports more on the case in her article about Vice President Kamala Harris’ “conversation” with the National Association of Black Journalists on Tuesday afternoon.

Harris recounted a tragic death story that recently occurred in Georgia, a state that has a heartbeat law. The woman purchased mifepristone in North Carolina, took the drug, and then when she returned to Georgia, she developed complications related to the abortion pill. The woman was hospitalized and was scheduled to receive a curettage to remove the remaining fetal body parts, but she died of an infection before the procedure could be performed. But Harris is riding her reproductive rights bandwagon, conveniently claiming that because of Georgia’s abortion ban, this impoverished woman was denied access to adequate “reproductive care.”

In the reports blaming Trump and the Supreme Court (and more specifically Georgia’s heartbeat law) for Thurman’s death, there appears to be no specific word from the hospital or medical providers about why the D&C was delayed – especially given the circumstances of Thurman’s case. It would certainly be helpful to know more about these details before blaming Georgia’s law (or Trump or Republicans) for her death.

Given that even the states with the most restrictive abortion laws have exceptions to protect the life of the mother, this blanket portrayal of what happened doesn’t seem entirely exact. But that doesn’t stop Harris, Warren and other Democrats from clearly (and conveniently) placing the blame on their political opponents.

So, like Shanahan, I want to know from Warren which states prohibit D&C after miscarriage? And where are women bleeding in parking lots? And how does that relate to abortion restrictions? Exactly.

And if Warren doesn’t have specifics, maybe she should reconsider her propaganda. I’m sure she wouldn’t want Kamala Harris – or, God forbid, Donald Trump – to follow Hillary Clinton’s advice and prosecute her for spreading misinformation.
