If you’re a politics junkie, you read a ton of articles, video clips, social media posts, etc. on a daily basis to see what’s going on out there, to find out what the warm topics of the day are, and what the spin machines are spitting out.

A lot of it turns out to be run-of-the-mill stuff, things that are crucial but don’t necessarily give you the caffeine rush of excitement, the kick that makes you want to read and/or watch the book to the end to get the whole story.

But every now and then you come across a story that hits you straight in the veins and makes you want to stand up and applaud, put your hand on your heart and shout “Merica!” at the top of your lungs.

This was also the case with me in the next clip, which is from an interview with CNN reporter Elle Reeve and which broadcast in Anderson Cooper’s program on Wednesday.

Reeve traveled to Florida to participate in a MAGA flotilla/boat parade hosted by the Bay County Republican Party and held on Shell Island on Panama City Beach.

During her stay, she spoke with many Trump fans, including a shirtless man in mirrored sunglasses named Joe Harner, who said he lived in the 55+ community of Latitude Margaritaville.

For Reeve, however, things quickly got sedate with South when she asked him why he was so worried about the economy under Biden-Harris when he seemed to be doing quite well.

His answers were perfect. This is how their exchange works went down (Voice warning):

REEVE: What is your most crucial issue?

HARNER: The economy, interest rates have to come down so we can afford to live in America. Right now, it’s too high-priced.

REEVE: OK, now I’m going to ask him a question that might be a little rude. But you know, if you can afford a boat, it’s not so bad, is it? Because a boat costs a lot of money and requires a lot of upkeep.

HARNER: Look, nobody’s fooled me. I’ve earned everything I have. I’m a retired military man, a retired power plant worker, and I’m successful and retired and have boats and jet skis because I did it right. And everybody has that opportunity. Whether they want it or not, that’s up to them.

REEVE: I would never try to take anything away from you like that. But what I’m saying is, groceries are probably a smaller part of your budget than, say, someone who’s a little less well off. I find it compelling that people who are a little better off are still so concerned about the economy. You know what I mean?

HARNER: Because I want my money to be worth more. I want inflation to go down. I want interest rates to go down again. I want all of that. But this affects everyone in the economy, not just me, not just the destitute, not just the prosperous. It affects everyone.

Regard:

I mean, the whole premise of her question was ridiculous to begin with. The gist of her question was that the guy did well, so why does he care why things have gotten more expensive if he can still afford them? Is this a joke?

I mean, our intellectual superiors are constantly telling people who are financially secure that they need to care more about people who are barely getting by, and yet it’s wrong for someone to do that because they have money? Besides, some people are financially well off precisely because they watch their budget and pay close attention to what they spend their money on. My goodness.

At least that’s how you deal with a snooty journalist, my dear readers. Bravo, Mr. Harner. Well done.
