Donald Trump took the stage at a campaign rally at Wilmington International Airport in battleground North Carolina on Saturday, but it wasn’t the Republican candidate who received the loudest applause. That honor may have gone to two of his grandchildren, seven-year-old Luke and five-year-old Carolina, the children of his son Eric and his wife Lara (who is also co-chair of the Republican National Committee).
First, he brought Carolina to the podium, where she told the crowd, “Make America Great Again!” The crowd was excited, but then Luke had his own moment when he said into the microphone, “Vote for Grandpa!” The crowd was excited.

The audience cheered: “Carolina, Carolina!” after she left the stage. Meanwhile, it turned out that Luke deviated from the script – but that didn’t bother Grandpa, because his text was actually better than Trump’s:
Trump told the audience that he actually asked Luke to say something different.
“I whispered in his ear, so sweetly, I said, ‘Say MAGA,'” the presidential candidate said. “He said, ‘Vote for Grandpa.'”
“He didn’t care what I said, and that was actually much better.”
Trump added that his daughter-in-law Lara grew up in North Carolina before continuing the rest of his speech against his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. At the start of the rally, Trump stressed the importance of getting voters in the Tar Heel State to the polls.

This is not the first time a grandson of Trump has wowed the crowd; his 17-year-old granddaughter Kai Trump (whose parents are Don. Jr. and his ex-wife Vanessa) wowed the crowd at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July when she said Trump was an inspiration to her:
“On Saturday I was shocked to hear he had been shot and I just wanted to know if he was OK. It was heartbreaking that someone would do that to another human being.
A lot of people have given my grandpa hell and he’s still standing. Grandpa, you are such an inspiration and I love you.

She deservedly took a swipe at the corrupt media:
My grandfather is portrayed in the media as a different person. But I know him for who he is. He is very caring and loving; he truly wants the best for this country and he will fight every day to make America great again.

The media and Democrats portray Trump as a Hitler-like dictator, a “threat to democracy,” a racist, and basically an all-around terrible human being. But their distorted portrayal is hard to reconcile with what we regularly see: his decency.
