In an exclusive story published Friday, Breitbart’s Matthew Boyle revealed the name of the person who leaked private communications between private citizen and current senator and Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance and a previously unnamed person, including noncommittal comments made by Vance in 2020 about then-President Donald Trump. The leaker named Kevin Gallagher is a Consultant for Deloitte, a financial services company. The Washington Post originally published the story about the leaked messages, but did not publish the name of the person JD Vance was messaging. Boyle wrote:
However, the Post did not tell its audience who Vance was communicating with in these messages, nor did it provide the full context of the conversation, as only part of it was reported. The Post argued that it granted anonymity to the source who provided the messages “out of fear of retaliation,” but this is the first time Breitbart News can reveal the person’s identity as a well-connected Deloitte consultant.
Here Breitbart News reveals the leaker:
The Deloitte consultant whose identity the Washington Post’s Peter Jamison kept secret from the newspaper’s readers is named Kevin Gallagher. On Deloitte’s website, Gallagher is listed as a “principal” of the Connecticut-based firm. Breitbart News has seen a screenshot of messages Vance sent to Gallagher – the other side of the conversation is not available because Gallagher deleted his account and thus the messages – which confirms that Gallagher is indeed the recipient of those messages.
Interestingly, despite being a newspaper that claims to promote transparency, the Washington Post neither gave Vance’s team earlier in the week when they attempted to respond to the newspaper’s inquiries nor provided its readers with the full context of the conversations, including comments , provided and questions Gallagher asked Vance to prompt Vance’s comments in response to the Post deeming them newsworthy. Vance’s team did not dispute the authenticity of the messages – the senator’s aides simply called on the Post to be crystal clear about the full context of the conversations and with whom the messages were shared. The Post made it clear in its story that it declined to do so.
A “managing director” is generally understood to be a person with a high position in the company. Among other things, Deloitte provides services for: different levels of government. At least for now. If the Trump/Vance team wins the election in November, this debacle could potentially cost Deloitte some significant government contracts. Finally, a company doing business with the U.S. government should be expected to maintain some level of control over unauthorized disclosure of information. Deloitte doesn’t do so well in this, a source told the publication:
A source close to Trump’s family told Breitbart News that the Trumps are watching this episode with horror. “The entire government affairs team at Deloitte should be fired,” said the source close to Trump’s family. “If they are too stupid to understand how this will impact Deloitte’s access to a Trump administration, then they have no business working in government affairs.”
The disclosure of personal data by the employee of such a service organization is certainly grounds for termination. It’s demanding to imagine that Kevin Gallagher, who actually leaked the confidential messages, won’t at least be fired.

It is unclear Gallagher’s motive for publishing these messages, although there are most likely political reasons. It’s well known that JD Vance wasn’t always enthusiastic about Donald Trump, although the vice presidential candidate has since claimed that Trump’s track record during his first term made Vance a Trump supporter.
Gallagher and Vance apparently knew each other, possibly while attending Yale, although Vance graduated from Yale Law School two years after Gallagher received his bachelor’s degree.
In the Breitbart story linked above, a spokesperson for JD Vance, William Martin, stated:
Martin, Vance’s spokesman, told Breitbart News that this whole charade stems from the post and from Gallagher on behalf of Deloitte it reeks of dishonesty.
“The Washington Post “unethically and disgracefully reported this story, refused to provide the full context of this exchange, and intentionally omitted evidence that Senator Vance had made similar comments publicly at the time,” Martin said. “It’s no surprise that the Kamala Harris administration’s propaganda arm is behaving this way, but the fact that senior officials at Deloitte Consulting are now actively working to interfere in the presidential election on behalf of the Democratic electorate is appalling.” Conversation, Mr. Kevin Gallagher, as a director of Deloitte, has made it his mission to overthrow his employer in the fight for a presidential election by leaking private conversations to the press in order to boost Kamala Harris’ failed election campaign.
At this time, neither Deloitte nor The Washington Post have provided further comment on this matter.
