KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Two copperhead snakes bit former West Virginia House Minority Leader and Republican Secretary of State candidate Doug Skaff Jr. as he was removing campaign signs.
Skaff tells 13 News he was bitten twice on his left leg and once on his right foot. Among other things, he says that it “hurts more than anything else” and that his left leg is “just killing me.”
He says he will stay in the hospital for a few days.
Skaff resigned as House Minority Leader in August 2023 and then resigned in September 2023. His current two-year term would have ended in 2024, as all current House members were elected in November 2022. He represented the 57th District for almost 12 years.
The Associated Press called the race for secretary of state for Kris Warner with 46% of the vote. Skaff followed behind at 21%.
