We’re nearing the home stretch of the 2024 presidential election, and with just over a month to go, former President Donald Trump is seeing a surge in cash to fund his final push.

According to his most recent filings, the Republican nominee raised about $160 million in Septemberand it’s likely that most of the money will be spent in key swing states, particularly on ad buys.

Trump’s official campaign, joint fundraising committees and the Republican National Committee reported that 96 percent of donations were under $200 and the average donation in September was about $60. The total fundraising resulted in the campaign raising a total of $283 million in the final stretch of the 2024 election.

“President Trump continues to inspire millions of everyday Americans to join his America First movement and help fuel the campaign with their hard-earned money. “Nearly 2.5 million donations under $200 were made in September,” Trump campaign senior adviser Brian Hughes said in a statement.

Trump’s fundraising in September is $30 million higher than in August, when his campaign brought in $130 million, but the former president’s organization continues to run a fundraising deficit compared to the Democratic and Kamala Harris campaigns on. Last month, the Harris campaign raised $361 million — nearly triple what Trump took in during the same period. The Harris campaign has not yet released its September fundraising numbers.

Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are virtually tied in the polls, with Harris holding a lead in national polls. But polls in the crucial swing states that need both candidates to win the Electoral College show the race incredibly close. Both campaigns have increased their ad buys to include major college football games watched by millions of Americans every weekend.

Current polls suggest Trump has an advantage in the Sun Belt states, while Harris has a very slight lead in the Rust Belt states.

A massive cash haul is incredibly critical for Trump as he is behind in fundraising this cycle. He is behind where he was at this point in 2020, although he has managed to maintain support for Harris, whose involvement in the unpopular Biden-Harris administration is rattling several key demographics.
