Several US universities have completed business with the government of President Donald Trump and offered concessions to his political agenda and financial payments in order to restore the retained federal benefit.
The Ivy League Schools Columbia, Brown and the University of Pennsylvania achieved agreements to solve federal investigations. The Republican administration urges more and quotes the deal negotiated with Columbia as a “street map” for other universities.
There is a freezing of billions of dollars of research funds for other universities, including Harvard, who has negotiated with the White House, even if it is fighting on court because of the lost grants.
Like no other president, Trump used government control of the federal research financing in order to advance changes in university formation and to decrypt elite universities as the places of extreme liberal ideology and anti -Semitism.
Here is a look at the universities, which are put under pressure through the administration’s cutting cuts.
Columbia University
On July 23, Columbia said that a fine of 200 million US dollars to restore federal financing had approved.
The school was threatened with the potential loss of billions of dollars of government support, including more than 400 million US dollars in grants that were canceled at the beginning of this year. The administration drew the money because it described the failure of Columbia to combat anti-Semitism on campus during the Israel Hamas War.
Columbia approved the requirements of the administration, such as the revision of the disciplinary process of the student and the application of a nationwide -supported definition of anti -Semitism against teaching and a disciplinary committee, the students examine the critical Israel critics.
Federal civil servants said the fine will go to the finance department and only be issued until the congress appropriately appropriates them. Columbia also agreed to pay 21 million US dollars in a remuneration fund for employees who were possibly faced with anti -Semitism.
The deal includes a clause that Columbia says that it preserves its independence and indicates in writing that the government is not authorized to dictate “attitude, admission decisions or the content of the academic language”.
Brown University
Brown calls for an agreement on Wednesday to pay 50 million US dollars to Rhode Island Workforce Development Organizations. This would restore dozens of lost federal research grants and studies on allegations of anti -Semitism and racist prejudices in brown approvals.
Among other things, Brown agreed to take over the definition of the government of “male” and “female” by the government and to remove any consideration of the breed from the approval process.
Like the settlement with Columbia, Brown’s does not include misconduct. It contains a provision that says that the government has no authority to dictate Brown’s curriculum or “the content of the academic language”.
University of Pennsylvania
As part of a July agreement that eliminates a federal civil rights procedure, Penn modified a trio of school documents that were set by transgender swimmers Lia Thomas, and said it would apologize to the women’s swimming team with the athletes.
As part of the wider attempt by the government, Penn examined the educational department to remove transgender athletes from girls and women’s sports. As part of the case, the administration of PENN had suspended funds of 175 million US dollars.
Harvard University
The administration has frozen research grants of more than 2.6 billion US dollars to Harvard and accused the oldest and richest university in the country to enable anti -Semitism. Harvard has pushed back with several complaints.
In the negotiations on a possible agreement, the administration strives to Harvard in order to pay an amount much higher far beyond Columbia.
Cornell University
The White House announced in April that it freely freely freely founded Cornell’s federal funding in Cornell than allegations of violations of civil rights.
The Ivy League School belonged to a group of more than 60 universities who received a letter from the educational department on March 10 and asked them to take measures to protect Jewish students or to take “potential enforcement measures”.
Northwestern University
Like Cornell, Northwestern saw a standstill in some of its federal financing in April. According to the administration, the amount was around 790 million US dollars.
Duke University
The administration this week Frar 108 million US dollars in federal money for Duke. The financing of the National Institutes of Health was found days after the departments for health and human services and education had sent a common letter in which the attitude and approval of Duke claimed racist preferences.
Princeton University
According to a campus message from the President of the University, Christopher Eisgruber, dozens of research grants were exposed to Princeton without clear reasons. The grants came from federal authorities such as the Energy Ministry, NASA and the Pentagon.
