The news in recent days has been full of horror reports from Los Angeles of family homes burning and businesses destroyed as wildfires spiraled out of control, aided by the infamous Santa Ana winds. L.A.’s Democratic mayor Karen Bass, once considered as Joe Biden’s vice presidential running mate, traveled out of the country in desperation as her city burned and stories emerged of fire hydrants without water, understaffed emergency workers and an aging infrastructure to spare made worse.
It’s a classic story about misplaced priorities and incompetent leadership.

A similar, if far less catastrophic, scenario is playing out on the other side of the country, where Richmond, Virginia, another city long governed by Democrats, is facing a water crisis. This is the fourth time the city has been without water since the water treatment plant was closed down after a snowstorm that passed through last Sunday and Monday.
According to officials with the city’s Department of Public Utilities, a winter storm knocked out power to the water treatment plant around 7:30 a.m. Monday.
The backup generators kicked in, but officials said both a separate backup battery and a redundant system failed.
As a result, the IT system, which is the brain of the entire operation, was severely damaged.
This also caused the filter gallery valves to become blocked and water to flow into the basement where the equipment was located
A message was only sent to the community ten hours after the disruption. after to Richmond Mayor Danny Avula after city officials realized “this is going to have a real impact.” Avula too noted that one of the water treatment plants involved is over a hundred years senior. By comparison, Democrats have governed Richmond for the last hundred years, except for a brief Republican term in the 1980s.
One could say that this is a debacle of democratic proportions.
While some residents in the area have water flowing drop by drop from their pipes, none of it is suitable for consumption. Authorities have been under a boil water warning since Monday treasure it will remain in place at least until Saturday.
The situation is so dire that the General Assembly meeting in Richmond was hammer The meeting began on Wednesday and was immediately adjourned until Monday.
Unlike California, where Gavin Newsom — or “Newscum,” as President-elect Donald Trump likes to call him — is in charge as governor, the Commonwealth of Virginia can rely on the leadership of Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin as Democrats botch things up. The governor immediately jumped into action to assist.
We are committed to supporting the City of Richmond until the water treatment plant is fully operational and water service is restored. We understand that families are struggling. Our ultimate goal is to ensure everyone has access to pristine water as quickly as possible. pic.twitter.com/Z93pvJ4OOh

Similar to LA, Richmond has suffered from years of Democratic rule and destructive DEI policies hugged at the expense of necessary infrastructure improvements. It’s challenging to understand why residents continue to vote for incompetence since they are always the ones who suffer the consequences, but these two cities seem stuck in this pattern.
Are more crises like this needed to make people realize that there is no such thing as good governance for Democrats?
