Donald Trump must take to the streets again.
The greatest strength of Trump’s 2016 campaign was the rallies – those huge rallies, often in places where the Clinton campaign felt they were on sheltered ground. He spoke to huge, enthusiastic audiences, he fired up the crowd. He’s good at that. I was in the media pit at CPAC in February of this year and saw the man speak, and the excitement in the enormous hall was palpable. Whatever else you may say about him, Trump knows how to fire up a crowd.
He has to start again, says the Daniel McCarthy of the New York Post. He is right.
If Donald Trump wants to return to the White House, he must be grave about winning the “ground war.”
Social media memes didn’t get him elected in 2016 – his relentless schedule of Election rallies did.
But this month, the Republican candidate is taking a break from the campaign trail while the Democrats are in the spotlight at their convention.
Is that sharp?
According to CNBC, Trump held 27 rallies in August 2016, but this time there were only a handful.
Instead, he is returned to Xthe social media site formerly known as Twitter for an interview with its larger-than-life impresario Elon Musk.
The X-Interview was definitely worth it: Not only did he appear together with Elon Musk, who has an audience of millions, but after some technical problems the two also had a lengthy discussion on topics that people enjoyed listening to.
But appearing on a highly acclaimed podcast is not the same as getting out there.

The challenging truth is that Trump is squandering the initiative. Even after Kamala Harris refuses to answer questions she did not prepare and did not shield, and after she has chosen as her running mate an senior white guy who botched his military career and is politically further left than Leon Trotsky, Trump is gradually losing the initiative. He is reacting to the Harris campaign rather than forcing it to react to him. He needs to get back on track, speedy.
Get those rallies going. The rally in the South Bronx has shaken the Democrats, as has the rally in New Jersey. Do more of it. Take the fight to Democratic strongholds, but don’t neglect the purple or even the red states. Voter enthusiasm will be critical in this election and Democrats just got a boost on that front after a bewildered Joe Biden, whose defeat was certain, withdrew and was replaced by Kamala Harris, whose defeat seems a little less certain. But we can’t count on that. The Trump campaign should count on nothing at all. Granted, former President Trump is eight years older than he was when he was first elected, but this must be done. To the former president, all I can say is this: get the crowds out. Talk to them. Yell at them. Make them cheer. Make them sweat. Make them want to crawl half a mile through junk and broken glass to vote for you, Mr. President. That’s what must be done.
That has always been Donald Trump’s strength. JD Vance has also shown so far that he is no slouch. Get going. There should be at least five rallies planned per week, for each of them, Trump and Vance, if not more. The race is getting tighter, and we cannot afford to let it get tighter. The current lead must be maintained and expanded.
Above all, the Trump campaign team must take the initiative. Take up the fight. In a conflict, if you leave the conditions of the fight to the opponent, victory is not possible.
Get out there, Don. And you too, JD. And don’t come home until this thing is won. There are less than three months until the election, and if Trump supporters want to win, they’re going to have to fight until the last card is on the table.
This seems appropriate.
