Charleston, W.Va. (Wowk) -Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will travel through the mountain state this weekend to fight his fight -oligarchy tour.
According to his website, Sanders Tour aims to have discussions all over America about how oligarchs and company interests can be taken over. Both parties in the West Virginia state gave explanations of Sander’s visit.
Mike Pushkin, chairman of West Virginia Democratic Party, said the party did not host the senator, but he welcomes the visit.
“As soon as you hear the message, you relate to many things for which Senator Sanders has fought, whether you protect social security, protect medicar, medicaid, remove dark money from politics,” said Puschkin.
The chairman of the Republican Party, Josh Holstein, pointed out on Sanders’ long -time opposition to fossil fuels.
“Our state has long rely on fossil fuels and the associated jobs, and Senator Sanders was a leading lawyer to eliminate fossil fuels nationwide,” said Holstein.
Senator Sanders spoke on Friday evening at the Capitol Theater in Wheeling.
Puschkin said he thinks Sander’s message will resonate at West Virginians.
“This is not the first time that he comes here. I have the feeling that he takes care of what people have to say in West Virginia, and many problems that affect our daily life. The main thing is that he comes here to listen to people,” said Puschkin.
Holstein said that Senator Sanders, although they could draw gigantic crowds on the state’s travels, but the Republicans are not concerned with the effects of visiting Sander in the 2026 elections.
“The results of the elections in West Virginia have consistently found that voters in West Virginia trust the Republican Party. They trust President Trump and they trust our values to drive them forward with a significant lead,” said Holstein.
Sen. Sanders travels to Lenore in Mingo County on Saturday, where he speaks at 1 p.m. in the Lenore Community Center
Later in the day he will speak at 6 p.m. in the capital of the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center
