Biden’s former chief of staff admits Kamala Harris’ vice presidency was a failure

Only after delving a little deeper into yet another mainstream media article lauding Kamala Harris do you come across a rather surprising admission from Joe Biden’s former chief of staff, Ron Klain. He basically admits that the Democratic presidential candidate failed at her job as vice president.

The New York Times headline Sunday might well lead one to believe that Harris has mastered the intricacies of the job: “A learning curve for vice presidents: How Kamala Harris made her choices,” it says. But after first describing how “thoughtful and disciplined” Harris was despite the many pitfalls she faced as the first female vice president, the Times finally got to the point (emphasis mine):

[Klain] …realized that she [Harris] was not always well served by the White House. “We all agreed that it should succeed. We just didn’t find the way to make it happen,” he said.

“People really liked them,” Mr. Klain added. “There’s a lot of excitement about them. And I don’t think we sold them well enough.”

Frankly, this assessment makes all three – Klain, Biden and Harris – appear incompetent. Political commentator and Fox News pundit Steve Hilton noted:

Although much of the media has acted since Kamala’s campaign began as if she had nothing to do with the border and bore no responsibility for the fiasco, the Times reluctantly admits this. [emphasis mine]:

But she was also burdened with hopeless tasks, especially combating the causes of illegal immigration from Central America, to expose them to criticism from Republicans. Upset by an early television interview gone wrong, she became nervous about mistakes, the question of whether an appearance or a line in a speech could spawn another malicious viral clipAnd her allies felt that the president’s staff often clipped her wings and appropriated her initiatives for his announcements without having to build a public profile themselves.

Have you noticed how the authors manage to criticize people who, in their view, we can call Republicans? Their senseless ramblings might spawn “another malicious viral clip.” But what exactly is malicious about using their own words?

We were also regularly told how close the President and Vice President are and that they have a deep friendship and mutual respect. However, this is not really convincing:

Mrs Harris took on her role without having a close relationship with her novel president. Due to the Covid-19 pandemicthe two did not campaign much together in 2020, and there were painful feelings among some in Biden’s circle, including Jill Biden, about Harris’ Attack on him during a Democratic primary debate because of his stance on busing for school integration in the 1970s.

Biden didn’t really need their “expertise” either:

After half a century in Washington, Biden didn’t need Harris to explain the capital to him – or at least he didn’t think he needed her. She had little experience in international affairs, something the former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee particularly valued. He didn’t put her in charge of key negotiations with lawmakers, as Obama had asked him to do.

The long article is mostly respectful and complimentary of the Vice President, but one essential thing that cannot be taken from the article is that they are trying to sell us a failed Vice President as the next Commander in Chief. What could possibly go wrong?
