Republicans have reached an agreement on a short-term fix in government spending and a possible escalate in the debt ceiling, according to two Republican lawmakers who met in Speaker Mike Johnson’s office Thursday afternoon.

The plan, which Johnson is expected to present to the House later Thursday, includes a stopgap measure to fund the government through mid-March, an extension of the Clean Agriculture Act and the previously negotiated $110 billion disaster relief package, according to three Republicans familiar with the deal US dollars with the Democrats, a spotless healthcare extension and a two-year suspension of the debt limit, starting a modern deadline of January 2027.
The plan apparently even has the blessing of President-elect Donald Trump:
Trump endorsed the deal in a Truth Social post, saying Johnson and the House of Representatives “came to a very good deal for the American people.”
“All Republicans and even Democrats should do what is best for our country and vote YES on this bill TONIGHT!”

Congress issues a continuing resolution before the government shutdown deadline
The Politico report says: “According to three Republicans, the House is expected to vote on the plan as early as 6 p.m. Thursday… “There is an agreement,” said Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-Okla.). Budget Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) confirmed there was an agreement between Republicans, although the news surprised House Democrats.
