The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has provided much-needed clarity on who can and cannot register to vote in the upcoming 2024 election. On Thursday afternoon, the state of Arizona was at the center of a modern decision. The lawsuit was filed by the state Republican Party and state Senate President Warren Petersen against an advocacy group supporting illegal immigrants, Mi Familia Vota, and Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes (D).

The Republican caucus in the state Senate responded to X, calling it a major victory for election integrity:

The contribution signed by Petersen reads:

Today, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of election integrity! Arizona voters who register with the state and do not provide proof of citizenship will be rejected.

Petersen said:

“This is a victory for election integrity in Arizona. Only U.S. citizens should be allowed to vote in our elections. That sounds like common sense, but the radical left elected officials in our state continue to reject that idea and disrespect the voice of our lawful Arizona voters. We are grateful that the court upheld this provision in our law, and it is time for Congress to take action to ensure that only lawful U.S. citizens vote in federal elections.”
