Sometimes a politician makes a statement that makes you think, “Yes, you’re probably right, but not in the way you think.”
Both major political parties have actually changed somewhat in the last few decades. The Republicans have, as someone once put it, transformed from “Country Club Republicans” to “Sam’s Club Republicans,” largely shedding their (aged and rather unfair) reputation as the party of wealthy large shots. Instead, they have become the party of classic workers, miniature business owners, and the various independent types, from gig economy workers to farmers and ranchers.
The Democrats have changed much more. My father, I recall, called himself a Truman Democrat, although I know he voted for Ronald Reagan twice. My father was a man who kept his political views to himself, but on the scarce occasions I could coax him out of his shell, he always expressed a desire for a robust military, more local and less national government, and disdain for government waste. He would have hated the idea of taxpayer bailouts of student loans, appeasing terrorist scumbags, and drag queens coming into elementary schools to read to little children. That would make him a radical right-winger in the eyes of today’s Democrats.
So, yes, things are changing. From California, we see Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) claiming that destitute aged Joe Biden, once he completes his second term, will increasingly unlikelyThe Democrats will be looking for a “a new generation leads this country.”
Khanna was asked by Peter Alexander on NBC’s “Meet the Press” if he would be interested in running for president in the future. He noted that he has been campaigning for President Biden in recent weeks. Khanna did not say whether he would run for the White House in the future, but reiterated that the country needs new leaders after Biden’s second term.
“I, like everyone else, am so focused on making President Biden president. But I want to say one thing: This country is thirsty for a new generation. And we have tremendous talent in our party, and there are young people on the other side as well,” Khanna replied.
“And I look forward to bringing a new generation to lead this country after President Biden’s re-election,” he added.
He is of course thinking of a recent generation of leftists. We have seen time and again that the reaction of progressives is: “We have to be progressive, Heavier.“It always seems real Socialism has not been tried yet, and all we need for a progressive utopia is the right leaders telling us all what to do.
To this end, Representative Khanna draws on all the usual progressive arguments, especially when it comes to the Middle East.
He had also previously admitted in an interview that it would be hard to win back the support of adolescent people for Biden, citing concerns about Israel’s ongoing war in the Gaza Strip against the militant group Hamas.
“The worst thing is that we are running out of time because more and more people are going to die. And we have to keep an eye on the humanitarian risks. But yes, it is a challenge for our party. Young people want the war to end. But what young people want is a vision, and the president has started that with the ceasefire,” he said.
“I hope he can go further and should advocate for the two-state solution. He should say in his second term that he will convene a Middle East peace conference, recognize a Palestinian state without Hamas and work with Egypt and Saudi Arabia on that,” Khanna added.
A little research would certainly reveal a lot of Ro Khanna’s progressive ideas that will not work. But for the sake of argument, let’s look at what Rep. Khanna mentions here.

First, he expresses concern that “more people are dying”. Of course, he is not talking about the Israelis, who have only recently experienced the worst mass murder of the Jewish population since the Holocaust. He is concerned about the scumbags of Hamas and the innocents in Gaza who are being used by Hamas as human shields. This is a challenge for his party, because the rise in virulent anti-Semitism on the left.
Second, the president has made no progress with a ceasefire; Hamas will employ any ceasefire, no matter who devised it, only to re-arm and re-equip itself for the next round. Anyone with enough sense to grind sand can see that the only way out for Israel is to eliminate Hamas, and that means finding and killing every single Hamas fighter.
Third and finally, how long have we been trying to push through this two-state solution? The “Palestinians” don’t want a two-state solution. They want Israel destroyed and every single Jew driven into the sea; that’s what “from the river to the sea” means. And Egypt and Saudi Arabia couldn’t care one bit about the people of Gaza (or the West Bank) or they would take them in as refugees. They don’t.
Ro Khanna is right about one thing: To remain a viable national party, the Democrats must embrace a recent generation of leadership. But if they want to remain a viable national party, the people they look to should be closer to Zell Miller than the team.
