CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Patrick Morrisey and Moore Capito are just three percentage points apart in the race for West Virginia governor, according to modern polling data.
In an exclusive 13 News/Emerson College poll, three of the GOP’s four most popular candidates for governor increased their percentage points: Moore Capito rose from 14% to 25%, Chris Miller from 16% to 19% and Mac Warner from 6% % to 12%.
The number of voters supporting Patrick Morrisey – who is still leading the race with 28% of voters – fell from 33% to 28% compared to March 2024 polling data. Capito is just behind Morrisey, with a quarter of voters surveyed supporting him.

Current West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has more than twice as much support in the Republican U.S. Senate race as his challenger, Rep. Alex Mooney. 54% of Republican voters support Justice, while 24% support Mooney.
While Justice’s percentage points remained about the same from March to May, Mooney’s percentage rose from 17% to 24%.
According to polling data, undecided voters are still on the side of justice. If you include undecided voters, 60% support Justice and 30% support Mooney.
The top issues for Republican voters in the May 14 primary are the economy (55%), education (11%), coal and energy (9%), threats to democracy (5%) and immigration (4%). to the press release.
82% of voters surveyed are “very concerned” about the cost of living, while 14% are somewhat concerned. 80% are very concerned about border security and 54% are very concerned about transgender issues, the poll data shows.

The Emerson College Polling/The Hill West Virginia poll was conducted May 2-5, 2024. The sample of GOP primary voters, n=558, has a margin of error (MOE) of +/- 4.1 percentage points. The datasets were weighted by gender, education, age and region based on 2024 voter turnout modeling. Voter turnout modeling is based on US Census parameters, voter surveys and voter registration data (WV SOS).
