CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Charleston residents expressed a mix of emotions Wednesday, including surprise, concern, joy and hope over the results of the 2024 presidential election. President-elect Donald Trump secured the race against Vice President Kamala Harris after had reached the 270 electoral votes required.
When asked what they thought of the outcome, voters told 13 News that jobs, inflation and peace were vital factors in choosing the next president.
“I believe that prices will go down again with this election,” said Christina Knapp. “With the salaries we earn, we can lead a normal life. And we live like we’re living paycheck to paycheck.”
Other voters said they had concerns about whether certain Trump policies would be good for people on both sides of the aisle.
“To a certain extent we are at the mercy of what the Republicans want to do,” said John Einreinhofer. “And it’s just a hope that they do the right thing and just don’t follow an agenda that’s not good for the country.”
Beyond choosing the next president, some voters expressed concerns about the impact this election could have on the country’s culture.
“Even without Trump becoming president, take him out of the equation. How will the culture change? How will the country change?” said Marian Handan.
However, a common hope among voters as they look ahead to the next four years is the hope that divisions across the country will ease.
The presidential inauguration will take place on January 20th.
