CNN data reporter raises alarm over a “very disturbing” sign for the Biden campaign: Donald Trump’s support among black voters has more than doubled.

“If you look at 2024, Biden is still ahead of Donald Trump among black voters, 69 percent in the polls on average,” said CNN’s Harry Enten. “But look at this number for Donald Trump: 22 percent. Where was Donald Trump at that point? Four years ago, he was polling at just 9 percent of the vote.”

“So he’s seen more than double the support among African-Americans,” he continued. “That lead that was 70 percent just four years ago is now 69 minus 22. That means he’s at 40 percent. My goodness.”

“If that majority holds until the general election, which of course will be months away, it would be by far the best showing by a Republican candidate among black voters in a generation, two generations, probably since 1960 and Richard Nixon versus John F. Kennedy,” he continued. “That’s really how long we’re talking about.”

“This could be a truly historic lead,” he added. “This is a pretty worrying sign for Biden’s campaign.”

But when age is taken into account, the polling data for Biden is even worse: Young black voters tend to favor Trump even more.

While Biden is supported by 82 percent of black voters over the age of 50, his approval rating drops to just 62 percent among those under 50. Trump’s approval rating among black voters between the ages of 18 and 49 is one in four voters, or 25 percent.

“Who are these voters?” he asked. “And let’s break that down by age, because I really think that gives you a good insight into exactly what’s going on here. Look at this. If you look at black voters 50 and older, you see that Joe Biden has a very large lead. Look at this: 82% to 8%. That lead is still in the 70s. That looks a lot like what we saw in the overall poll in 2020.”

“But look at voters under 50. Look, Donald Trump is getting 25% of that vote. Joe Biden is only getting 62% of that vote. That lead, Sarah, that lead is just under 40 percentage points. That’s historic.”

“A lot of people have talked about Joe Biden having a specific problem with younger black voters, and that’s exactly what’s showing up here. And that’s a big reason, I think, why Biden is going to focus more on black voters, why Jim Clyburn is going to the polls,” Enten said.

“Don’t be surprised if they go to more colleges, because the fact is that older black voters still like Joe Biden very much,” he continued. “It’s these younger black voters who are turning strongly against him and supporting Donald Trump much more strongly than they did four years ago.”

That’s exactly what NBC News found out when its reporter recently attended Donald Trump’s rally in the Bronx.
