CNN study surveyed children about Trump and Harris, but they got some results they may not have expected

I’m not sure what CNN was trying to prove with a recent study about the election.

She busy AA psychologist from Arizona State University, together with a renowned political scientist from Stanford, developed a test to understand how fourth and fifth grade students view the 2024 election and the candidates. The psychologist was Ashley Landrum and the political scientist was Shanto Iyengar According to the NY Post, Landrum had donated to Harris’ super PAC during the time she was interviewing the children. She told the Post she was “happy to disclose” that she was a Harris donor and a registered independent.

But what they found may not have been exactly what CNN was hoping for.

Landrum interviewed the 10- and 11-year-old children in May and September in New Jersey, Texas and Arizona.

“What is the first word that comes to mind when you hear the name Kamala Harris?” she asked the children, including a boy from Texas:

A girl from Texas said that while it would be nice to have a black female president, she still “voted” for former President Donald Trump:

“Pure evil,” replies a girl from New Jersey.

“Donald Trump gives his life and his heart,” a Texas girl retorted when asked about the 45th president in May, two months before an assassination attempt against him.

“Do you think it’s OK for someone who is a convicted felon to become president of the United States?” The boy who called Harris a “liar” is asked at another point.

“Yes,” he replied without reservation.

Others in deep blue New Jersey called Trump “brave” for surviving “a gunshot” at a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

One of the key findings was that the children from the blue state showed more “extreme reactions” than the children from the red state. They were nine times more likely to express negative feelings toward Trump than those who expressed negative feelings toward Harris:

A child says Trump is “like Hitler.” Another says Trump only wanted to become president to “control everyone.” A third said he believed those involved in Jan. 6 thought “Trump was a god.”

Landrum calls Trump “polarizing” without addressing the constant negative media attacks on him directed at the American people. She notes that “it’s very possible” that the children picked up on their parents’ feelings.

They also asked the children if they could visit the homes of people who supported the other candidate.

They found that “Republican-leaning children were more open to attending a Democratic-supporting household. Democratic-leaning children were about five times more likely to say they wouldn’t want to go to a pro-Trump house.”

Two Democratic-leaning children said their parents probably wouldn’t like it, including one child who was told Trump doesn’t like black people.

You can see the difference in the response of the boy who called Kamala Harris a “liar”; He thought it was fine, “it’s about people’s personalities.”

Of course, children should not be politicized from the outset; Children should not be told that Trump is “like Hitler.” And ultimately it is the media that is behind the propaganda, both for adults and children. But the fact that the “Republican-leaning” kids are more open to differences reveals a lot and blows up the Democrats’ elderly mantra about who’s really intolerant here.
