Among country star Waylon Jennings’ many hits, one of my favorites was “I’ve Always Been Crazy” (But It’s Kept Me From Going Insane). While Waylon’s craziness might have kept him from going insane, Democratic strategist James “Ragin’ Cajun'” Carville was not so lucky.
Perfect example:
Carville said during the Politics War Room Podcast on Thursday that the Republican Party supports Israel because conservatives are racist and Jews are “whiter” than Palestinians and therefore deserve much more support. No, really.
It’s really about the misogyny and racism that’s driving it, and we need to recognize that. It’s not about any policy. And I suspect that the reason most of these people identify as pro-Israel is because Jews are whiter than Palestinians, which I think is a substantial part of their identity.
Carville then descended into illogical nonsense about anti-Israel Demonstrators Democrats instead of Republicans in the crosshairs.
My favorite comment on this movement or these protests… Some of these things bother me… I’m not remotely Palestinian. But they asked her, “Trump is even more radical or anti-Palestinian than whatever you think President Biden or Vice President Harris is. Why aren’t you protesting against him?”
They said, ‘Because we have no leverage with them.’ The reason they say, ‘We’re targeting the Democrats,’ is because we think they’d be more open to this, but we’re not going to do anything with the Republicans because we have no leverage there.”
Then the classic Carville:
Well, that’s just stupid political bullshit, isn’t it? So, are you going to hurt the person who actually has the best chance of solving this problem satisfactorily just because you can’t influence the other person? I don’t understand the logic. I don’t understand the logic at all. I just don’t understand it.
Is that a miracle? I mean, James is James – and he is becoming more and more James the older he gets. I don’t know if the guy’s screws are getting looser or tighter.

Oh, I almost forgot. James also freaked out about Donald Trump’s rhetoric, which is nothing novel.
Anyone who has paid even the slightest attention to Donald over the past eight years is more than aware of his – shall we say “unique”? – speaking style.
What really annoys me is that you hear this all the time: “Trump doesn’t get it… if only he were more moderate… and didn’t say this crazy stuff,” you don’t get it. That’s his appeal. Without racism and misogyny, he has nothing!
And he knows that. And he’s not going to listen to the campaign advisers telling him to be reasonable or normal or talk about moving to the center and talking about the issues, because that’s not the nature of the Republican Party.
Memo to James Carville:
The facts: The majority of Israelis are of non-European descent. Israeli Jews are often indistinguishable from Israeli Arabs or Palestinian Arabs and have Middle Eastern facial features.
Israel, the world’s only Jewish state, was founded not just for one kind of Jew, but for all Jews from all parts of the world – the Middle East, North Africa, Ethiopia, Asia, and yes, Europe too.
There is no doubt that the founding of Israel provided a refuge for Jews who had survived the Holocaust and extreme oppression in Europe. However, we cannot celebrate this history at the expense of [other] Jews … regardless of skin color, [who] shared the desire for a Jewish state long before the founding of Israel.
