In a hotly contested Michigan primary for the Senate seat being vacated by Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) ran against actor and businessman Hill Harper. DDHQ reports that Slotkin won the seat handily. Defeat Harper 80 percent to 20 percent.

U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin is the winner of Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary, according to DDHQ projects. Slotkin ran against actor and businessman Hill Harper.

Slotkin, 48, is currently the U.S. representative for Michigan’s 7th District – which includes all of Ingham, Livingston, Shiawassee and Clinton counties, as well as parts of Eaton, Genesee and Oakland counties.

Slotkin used X to announce her victory, thank her supporters, and, of course, raise funds.

THANK YOU, MICHIGAN!! Thank you to everyone who voted in this primary – and to everyone who knocked on a door, talked to voters, or contributed a few dollars to aid support this campaign. I am so excited to officially be your Democratic nominee for Senate. And for those who may not have voted for me, I look forward to earning your support.

Today officially begins the 90-day sprint to the November general election. There is still a lot of work to do, and I will need a full grassroots team and a broad base on my side. Now is the moment: Can I count on you to contribute $5 so we can start the general election off on the best foot possible and keep Michigan Republican? Let’s do it!!

In the general election on November 5, Slotkin will face Republican and former congressman and FBI agent Mike Rogers, who is endorsed by former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump. Rogers won the Republican primary, defeating former Congressman Justin Amash 65 percent to 15 percent. Two other Republican challengers were also defeated and received the rest of the votes.

DDHQ predicts that U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers will win the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Michigan, defeating former Rep. Justin Amash and Dr. Sherry O’Donnell of West Michigan.

Rogers, 61, served as a congressman for Michigan’s 8th district from 2001 to 2015, as well as an FBI agent and a Michigan state senator.

As a congresswoman, Slotkin positions herself as a moderate politician, touting her work as a CIA analyst and in the Department of Defense under Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush. When Rogers was in Congress, he chaired the House Intelligence Committee and plans to focus on the economy, the southern border and crime.

Given the changing tides of Michigan’s electoral districts, the race is considered a coin toss.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report classified the open Senate seat as “undecided.” The race was originally expected to be “more Democratic,” but that changed shortly before President Biden dropped out of the 2024 race.
