The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is now officially non-partisan. Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) joins House DOGE Caucus.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Florida, announced Tuesday that he would be joining the House of Representatives. DOGE Caucusand became the first Democrat in the now non-partisan group.

He advocated removing the US Secret Service (USSS) from the purview of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which was proposed by several Republican lawmakers months ago.

“Today I will join the DOGE Caucus in Congress because I believe that streamlining government processes and reducing ineffective government spending should not be a partisan issue,” Moskowitz said in a statement.

Now there is a goal that you can’t seem to counteract. Who could not Do you think streamlining government processes and reducing ineffective government spending is a good idea? Of course, many of Rep. Moskowitz’s Democratic colleagues will oppose the DOGE effort, as most members of that party have never seen government spending or an expansion of bureaucracy that they would not have supported.

One wonders if Rep. Moskowitz will be labeled a “Democrat in Name Only” (DINO). Is that a thing? It is not at all unlikely that Democrats will label Moskowitz and any other Democrats who join this initiative as renegades, on the same scale as the two tame Republicans that Nancy Pelosi allowed on the J6 committee.

There is a substantial difference. The J6 Committee was established to maintain the Deep State. The DOGE is intended to paralyze it.

The DOGE Caucus, which stands for “Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency,” was launched by Reps. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, and Aaron Bean, R-Florida, shortly after President-elect Donald Trump created a DOGE advisory board under the It was announced by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

“I have made it clear that there are ways to reorganize our government to work better for the American people. The Department of Homeland Security in particular, while very necessary, has become too large,” Moskowitz said.

The Department of Homeland Security, as we might note, has only been around since 2003. Until then, we got by without it. Why not eliminate it entirely and return the functions that were originally built into DHS back to where they were? This seems like something that could be put into the category of “a good start.”

At the moment this idea seems to be very popular. Americans in general, at least those not part of or adjacent to the infamous Squad, think Washington City could apply trimming a little — or a lot — of the fat. Some of us would like to see a lot more. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy talk about wielding the broad ax and may well suggest abolishing entire agencies.

This would also fill the ranks of the “A Good Start” category.

The DOGE – and all of us conservatives and libertarians, anyone who supports circumscribed government, would do well to remember the words of Barry Goldwater:

I have little interest in streamlining the government or making it more competent because I intend to shrink it. I do not undertake to promote welfare, because I propose to expand freedom. My goal is not to make laws, but to repeal them.

Let’s hear it for shrinking government, Mr. Moskowitz! Release the DOGE and may it bite deep.
