It appears that President Joe Biden gave Republicans a bigger Christmas present than I initially believed after his decision to pardon his son Hunter.
Because of Santa Biden, Democrats are now clashing over the issue, with some prominent left-wing figures criticizing other Democrats for defending the pardon or remaining mute about it.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom was one of several Democratic politicians to complain about his colleagues’ silence on the issue. He told Politico said he “completely understands[s] Instinct to protect Hunter,” but said he “took the president at his word” and was “disappointed and could not support the decision.”
In fact, the fact that the president repeatedly said he would not pardon his son caused contention on both sides of the aisle.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said“No one is above the law, and that includes presidents, former presidents and family members of presidents.”
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis called the pardon “a bad precedent” that would “spoil.” [Biden’s] Call.”

If you become president, your role is to be the father of the nation. Hunter brought the legal troubles he faced upon himself, and one can sympathize with his struggles while also acknowledging that no one is above the law, not a president and not a president’s son.
One Democratic strategist called it pardon “problematic” and emblematic of Biden’s presidency. “I think it’s terrible that he did it and that no Democrat is speaking out,” the person said.
Kurt Ehrenberg, a former adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), noted that the president “has nothing to lose.” His friends threw him overboard. He did what was best for him, which is what Joe Biden always does.”
Representatives of left-wing media also expressed criticism of the pardon. The “Obama Brothers” criticized the decision on their podcast “Pod Save America.” “Now everyone looks stupid. “Everyone looks like they’re full of shit,” Tommy Vietor said.
Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau said he believed Biden when he said he would not pardon his son. “I feel like an idiot, it makes me angry.” He also criticized the president for not pardoning others who deserved it more: “It is extremely annoying that Biden has chosen to pardon his son pardon and not a whole bunch of other people who were just government officials doing their job.”
NBC’s Chuck Todd, a longtime Democratic Party supporter, called the pardon selfish and suggested Biden “needs therapy.”

Of course, the real problem here isn’t just that Biden made a bad decision after lying about it multiple times; It is the case that his decision has an impact on the entire party. Ehrenberg argued that the chorus of crickets coming from many other Democrats is “a sign that the Democratic presidential candidates are expecting more of the same. “I don’t see any shining stars in the field right now.”
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the crux of the matter. As I’ve noted before, those who plan to scream at the top of their lungs when President-elect Donald Trump pardons all or some of the J6ers will have a harder time being taken seriously because of their president’s actions – especially since many on the left always do haven’t talked about it yet.
As “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart pointed out, this shows that Democrats “never had the moral upper hand.” It was always a lie.”
This episode proves Stewart right. The level of hypocrisy that Democrats must display in criticizing Trump for releasing people who were actually convicted for strolling through the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2023 does not go unnoticed remain. With that in mind, it seems clear that Republicans are on Santa’s good list this year.
