WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Project 2025 is attracting attention from Republicans and Democrats.

The conservative plan is a comprehensive reform of the federal government proposed by a group close to former President Donald Trump.

Democrats in the House of Representatives say their goal is to kill the project in 2025.

“It’s a collection of extreme MAGA ideas,” said Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.).

The conservative Heritage Foundation is behind the plan. The plan calls for a restructuring of federal employees, policies and agencies, including the abolition of the Department of Education.

Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu of California calls it worrying.

“I mean, this document is scary. It’s a takeover of the American form of government,” Lieu said.

In the past week, many Republicans have distanced themselves from Project 2025.

Former President Donald Trump said he knew nothing about it.

Possible Trump running mate and Republican Senator from Ohio JD Vance said the former president has his own plan.

“The media and the Democrats are trying to attribute the most unpopular elements to the Trump administration. It’s a 900-page document. I guarantee there are things Trump likes and things he doesn’t like,” Vance said.

Democratic Congressman Maxwell Frost of Florida says he heard about the plan from voters.

“They are terrified of Project 2025 and the far-right wing,” said Frost.

Democrats hope that Project 2025 will motivate voters to support President Biden.
