Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Thursday that federal investigators were refusing to cooperate with state authorities conducting their own investigation into the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, which occurred Sunday at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.
In an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham after signing an executive order earlier this week authorizing the Florida Attorney General to launch a criminal investigation into the incident, DeSantis said federal authorities have complied with state officials’ orders multiple times.
The answer is no, they are not cooperating. I am concerned. For example, we were turned away, our investigators were turned away when they simply went to the fence in front of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.
The governor told Ingraham that he believed the Biden-Harris administration had opposed Florida’s investigation.
But the thing is, there were multiple violations of Florida law in multiple jurisdictions. We believe that this man may have violated Florida law in at least three jurisdictions. So we have an obligation to investigate this. We have an obligation to bring the appropriate charges, and we also have an obligation to inform the public about how this happened.
As soon as we found out about it on Sunday, I told our people in law enforcement to save all of his social media because Facebook is going to delete it and the tech companies want to delete it. Capture his digital trail and save it because we need to know how he ended up in Florida in the first place. What route did this guy take to end up in those bushes trying to assassinate the former President of the United States and current Republican candidate? How could this happen?
There are more questions than answers, which was also the case with the first assassination attempt on Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania. Why? A huge unanswered question that only leads to more skepticism among the public.

DeSantis pointed to Butler’s shooting as part of the reason for his initial concerns about the lack of cooperation from federal investigators.
And we haven’t gotten answers about Butler. We haven’t gotten answers about things like the Las Vegas shooting many years ago. Part of the investigation that our people are doing is they’re going to present evidence of the motive, his connections, his beliefs. I think it’s very vital that the public knows the real story about that.
It Is very vital – for several reasons. But it is also part of the worst US administration in history, lasting more than three and a half years.

Ironically — or perhaps as a kind of poetic justice for the Biden-Harris administration — the refusal of federal investigators to cooperate with the Florida investigation into the “incident” at Trump’s golf club can only lead to further public distrust, which is partly why DeSantis ordered the state investigation.
