“This is a damning indictment of our party brand. “We must be willing to dig deep and reorient the Democrats’ agenda to unite families regardless of race, age, background and class,” he continued. “It will take an extensive narrative and branding project to figure out who we are in the eyes of the American voter.”

Martin is among the few announced candidates running to become the next DNC chair. Other announced candidates include Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.

Martin has led the Minnesota DFL since 2011 and is both vice chairman of the DNC and president of the Association of State Democratic Committees. He has reportedly received at least 100 endorsements from DNC members so far.

Martin also called on the party to “regularly appear in non-traditional and uncomfortable media spaces” and create fresh forums to engage with voters.

“My plan focuses on ensuring we can compete in every zip code and every community – with the organizational and structural changes we need to make it happen,” Martin wrote in a post on X about his plan.

The election of the DNC chairman will take place on February 1st, and four candidate forums are planned until then.
