Washington (AP) – Dozens of employees in the US education department were initiated into the federal government in response to the order of President Donald Trump in the Federal Government, the hundreds of employees to the agency.
It is unclear how many workers were put on vacation or for what reason, said Sheria Smith, President of the American Federation of the government agent Local 252. From an office that sends billions of dollars at K-12 schools to an office Civil rights laws.
The shock comes as the Department of Government of Government of Government of Government (Elon Musk), which endeavors to reduce programs and federal workers into the government departments, including the US Agency of International Development. A Doge team worked in the educational department on Monday to implement Trump’s executive orders and agenda, said Madison Biedermann, a spokesman for the educational department.
The department did not immediately comment on the changes in the staff and did not say how many employees were on leave.
At least 55 employees of the educational department received an e -mail on Friday, in which they said that they were brought into effect immediately according to Trump’s executive command. According to a copy of the e -mail received by the Associated Press, it was not carried out for “disciplinary purposes”.
Those who were put on vacation lost access to their state e -mail accounts and were instructed not to report to the office. This includes a number of employees and managers in the entire department, which employs more than 4,000 employees in Washington and regional offices across the country.
Most of the vacation seem to have completed a voluntary diversity training seminar in the department, said Smith. The diversity change agent program has been funded by the agency for years, even while Trump’s first office in office.
It was expected that graduates of the two-day program act as role models and the “capacity of the department to keep a diverse workforce”, according to an internal email from 2019, contribute to gaining and maintaining a diverse workforce.
Smith said hundreds of employees had completed the training, but it was unclear whether all of them were brought on vacation. She said many people had the impression that the training was strongly encouraged or necessary.
“It seems unfair to encourage or ask people to complete an apprenticeship, and then put them in administrative leave four or five years later,” said Smith.
Some current employees who are on vacation said that the lawsuit could disrupt the agency’s core work, including the administration of federal loans and the FAFSA form for financial support for students. The workers spoke out of fear of reprisals about the state of anonymity.
Senator Patty Murray, D-Wash., A former teacher and member of the Senate Committee, Education, Labor and Pension of the Senate, said that Trump encouraged the employees to occupy a training course to which his administration encouraged her to “clean”.
“This will not help our children to learn money or even save money,” said Murray at the Social Media website X.
Trump’s command demanded that all DEI employees of the federal government were paid and finally released. It is part of a more comprehensive approach to diversity programs that the Republican President says that they are racist.
Trump campaigned for a promise to close the educational department, which in his opinion was infiltrated by “radicals, zealers and Marxists”. He said the power of the agency should be handed over to states and schools.
