Don’t believe your own eyes. That was the message of the far left after the assassination of Donald Trump, when they spread conspiracy theories claiming that he had not actually been shot.
The claims ranged from “it was glass” to “the whole shooting was staged.” That’s what you’d expect from the BlueAnon lunatics. That’s less to be expected from the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
SEE: Trump lashes out at Chris Wray after FBI chief bizarrely questions whether he was shot
As RedState reported, FBI Director Christopher Wray thought it was a good idea to spread the left-wing conspiracy theory that Trump was not hit by a bullet.
FBI Director Wray questions whether Trump was shot: “As for former President Trump, it is questionable whether his ear was struck by a bullet or shrapnel.” pic.twitter.com/ZVWAf3GE8t

The question Wray should have been asking himself after his comment was: shrapnel from what? I’ve fired many .223 rounds in my life and never has one exploded accidentally in mid-air. The teleprompters were not hit, as evidenced by pictures taken immediately after the assassination. The fired bullets also passed Trump’s head and killed a man standing in the background. Was he also hit by “shrapnel”?
Wray’s suggestion was not only illogical but also incredibly irresponsible. His remark went viral in the left camp, including in the press, with several outlets parroting the nonsensical conspiracy theory.
On the right side, requirements for clarification purposes.
Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Friday morning urging him to “immediately” correct his statement that he was unsure whether former President Trump was struck in the ear by a bullet during his July 13 rally in Pennsylvania.
Wray testified Wednesday that he was unsure whether it was a bullet, a piece of glass or a shrapnel that hit Trump in the ear during his speech at the outdoor rally.
In response, the FBI released a statement on Friday attempting to neat up Wray’s mess:
FBI statement released this hour – attributed to the agency and not to any specific individual:
“What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject’s rifle.”— Bret Baier (@BretBaier) July 26, 2024
While that’s better than the silly claim that Trump was hit by glass, the statement still reeks of contempt. It also opens the door once again to conspiracy theories. What evidence is there that the bullet “shattered into smaller pieces”? How could that have happened? It’s clear from the video of the shooting that no bullets struck the podium, teleprompters, or surrounding area. They were higher, which is why they ended up killing a man in the stands behind Trump.
But the FBI, digging itself in to avoid backlash, wants to keep things just ambiguous enough to give BlueAnon free reign. That’s so incredibly typical, and another reason why Wray should be fired as soon as Trump takes office, assuming he wins in November.
Besides, why does any of this even matter? Someone tried to kill Donald Trump at a political rally. That will be no less of a momentous event depending on what has been thrown at the former president. However, the left and its allies in the press are so partisan and so driven by their thirst for power that they are trying to make this case without any evidence. It’s disgusting, and it’s the kind of issue that would top the news if a Republican questioned an attempt on a Democrat’s life.
