Washington (AP)-a hour failure on Wednesday on Studentaid.gov, the federal website for student loans and financial support, underlined the risks of quickly exchanging the Ministry of Education as President Donald Trump wants to reduce the agency.
Hundreds of users reported Fafsa failures to downdetector from Wednesday at noon. The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, a group of people who take over the universities’ Financial Aids, also received reports from users who had technical problems and had problems doing the FAFSA.
“We tried to get more clarity about why it is no longer,” said Allie Bidwell Arcese, a spokeswoman for Nasfaa. The educational department had not shared any information about the failure.
The developers and the IT support employees who worked on the FAFSA form were difficult affected on Tuesday in the educational department examinations together with the buyouts of the employees and the termination of subject employees. Overall, the educational department has reduced its employees by half to around 2,000 since Trump took office.
A list of dismissed employees who have been preserved and verified by AP shows more than 300 people who were reduced from the Federal Study Aid-two to them from the Federal Aid Technology Department. This included the entire team, which is responsible for systems that support the FAFSA form, a person with knowledge of the failure, the Associated Press said anonymously for fear of retaliation. While the dismissed employees are still technically employed by March 21, they only had narrow access to their emails, telephones and computers, which made an answer to the failure, the person said. At one point on Wednesday, around 70 people had joined a team call to try to determine the cause of the failure.
The call continued for hours. On Wednesday evening, the website had a banner in which it was claimed that the “planned maintenance” was underway and the registration was interrupted.
The educational department did not respond to a request for comments.
The problems with the FAFSA had annoyed the administration of the former President Joe Biden and approved the Republicans. The form was revised last year to simplify it, but technical problems blocked the students to submit forms or botched calculations for financial aid.
Proponents say that frustration probably caused thousands of students to go to college at all. Last autumn, US universities recorded a decline in the enrollment of up-to-date students by 5%last year, and according to the National Student Clearinghouse, it was lower at universities last year with a vast number of students with low incomes.
