Charleston, W.Va. (Wowk) – Flags in Kanawha County are reduced in half the seasons in memory of the former delegate Doug Skaff.
The governor of West Virginia, Patrick Morrisey, ordered that flags should fly with half staff from the day of Skaff’s internment at noon on Wednesday, June 11th. The governor says This proclamation Applies to the Capitol elaborate in Charleston and all state institutions in the Kanawha district.
Douglas “Doug” John Skaff Jr., a long-time legislator and business owner of Kanawha Valley, was killed on Tuesday, June 10th, in a car accident on the I-79. He was 48 years ancient.
“I am broken with the death of our friend Doug Skaff,” said Morrisey. “Doug was a long -time state legislator, the minority leader of the West Virginia House of Delegates and the omnipresent in the Charleston community.
The West Virginia University, born on November 10, 1976 in Charleston, completed the West Virginia University with a master in Labor and Industrial Relations and a Bachelor marketing.
Skaff represented the 57th district for almost 12 years before resigning as a minority leader of the house in August 2023 and then stepped down in September 2023. He then moved to the Republican party and ran for State Secretary.
In May 2024, Skaff got several snake bites on his feet while he loosened campaign signs from his run for State Secretary in Boone County. After staying in the hospital, Skaff lived with long -term effects of the bites, including nerve damage, which particularly influenced his left foot.
In the past few months, SKAFF has bought the Italian restaurant in the city center of Charleston Fazio together with Hale House owner Vincente Cruz. Last post on Facebook shared his excitement about the business.
At the time of his death, Skaff worked as President of HD Media Charleston Gazette. He was also the main partner of Skaff Family Limited, owner and managing director for the construction and conversion of Warehouse, LLC, and among other things Vice President for Skaff Development.
He was also the founder of West Virginia Up all night, Mountaine Maniacs and West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders.
Skaff enjoyed his time as a coach for the youth church basketball League and was a member of Saint George Orthodox Cathedral.
He leaves a woman and three children.
