Strong, fla. (AP) – A man who was convicted of killed girlfriend, her mother and a man, whom he claimed that he owed $ 2,000 on Thursday a fatal injection in a record execution in the state of Florida this year.
The 59 -year -old Curtis Windom would be the 30th person who was executed this year in the USA. Florida led the path behind a flood of death judgers signed by the Republican governor Ron Desantis. A 12th man, David Joseph Pittman (63), is to be killed in Florida on September 17th.
Windom, whose last calling for a stay on Wednesday was rejected by the United States Court of Justice, is to be executed in the Florida State Prison near sturdy ones. Before the planned execution, prison officers said Windom woke up at 5 a.m. and “be in a good mood”. He had no visitors on Thursday and had a last meal with ribs, baked beans, collard greens, potato salad and a slice.
Windom was sentenced to the death of Johnnie Lee, Valerie Davis and Mary Lubin in the Orlando region on November 7, 1992.
Court files show that a friend of Windom announced that day that Lee, who allegedly $ 2,000 $ 2,000, had won $ 114 on a diaper racing route. Windom told the friend that “you will read about me” and he planned to kill Lee.
Windom went to a walmart to buy a revolver of 0.38 caliber and a box with 50 mussels. Not long afterwards Windom drove to find Lee, found him and shot him twice from his car in his back, followed by two more shots above the victim up close.
Then Windom ran to Davis’ apartment and shot his girlfriend in front of a friend who witnessed the murder, fatally “without provocation”, as court files show. Windom accidentally shot and wounded another man before he met Davis’ mother Mary Lubin when she drove into her daughter’s apartment. Lubin was shot on a stop sign twice in her car.
Windom received death sentences for the murders and a 22-year sentence because of the attempted murder. Davis was the mother of Windom’s children, a daughter who campaigned for her father’s execution.
“We are all traumatized,” the daughter Curtisia Windom told Orlando Sentinel. “It hurt. It hurt a lot. Life was not easy to grow up. But if we could forgive him, I don’t understand why people on the street who did not go through our pain to say that he should die.”
A group called Floridians about alternatives to the death penalty in a statement on Thursday that she had given the governor more than 5,000 signatures for petitions and asked him to stop the execution plans. In the statement it was found that Curtisia Windom belonged to those who demanded mercy.
“Forgiveness comes over time, and 33 years are a long time. I missed my father myself,” the inmate’s daughter was quoted in the statement.
Windom’s lawyers have lodged numerous appeals over the years, including the claim that evidence of his psychological problems in the procedure should have been introduced. The Supreme Court of Florida, however, decided that this was not disadvantageous against Windom, since the prosecutors then presented evidence that he was a drug dealer and the two women he killed were police information.
Many of Windom’s appeals have concentrated on the claims that he was represented by an incompetent lawyer when it came to presenting evidence of mental health.
Since the death penalty restored the death penalty in 1976, the highest annual total of Florida was eight in 2014. Florida has carried out more people this year than in any other state, while Texas and South Carolina are bound in second place with four.
The most recent execution in Florida took place on August 19, when the 67 -year -old Kayle Bates was killed for the murder of a woman he had kidnapped from an insurance office in Florida Panhandle.
The executions in Florida are carried out with a three fatal injection-a sedative, a paralyzing and a medication that the heart stops according to the State Department of Corrections.
