Republican Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina was hospitalized Tuesday night after reportedly collapsing while attending an event in Washington, DC.

Republican Rep. Joe Wilson, a senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, collapsed at an event on Tuesday and was hospitalized, his office said.
The message on the 77-year-old Wilson’s official X-profile said the congressman was “ill and being evaluated at a local hospital in Washington, DC.”
According to his son, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, his father is in “stable” condition and doctors “have confirmed [to the family] he has symptoms like a stroke.” In an X-post he wrote:
I just spoke to my mother, who is currently in the hospital with my father. The doctors have confirmed that he is experiencing stroke-like symptoms. I was able to speak to him a few moments ago and am incredibly grateful that he is stable and being monitored by medical professionals.

Wilson fell ill while sitting in the front row of a Ukrainian Independence Day celebration at Ukraine House in Washington’s diplomatic enclave. The Ukrainian ambassador had just begun to speak when she paused and asked for a doctor.
The 77-year-old Wilson represents The 2nd Congressional District of South Carolina. According to the NY Times,
“[Rep.] Wilson is running for re-election against Democrat David Robinson to represent the conservative central South Carolina district that first elected him to office in December 2001. He is the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and also sits on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Education and Workforce Committee.”
