I almost started my headline with “Flying Pigs Alert.” Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, whose campaign appears to be on life support, has finally agreed to take part in an interview with Fox News. No, really.
Although it’s not the debate that Fox first offered Harris, she will be interviewed by veteran journalist and “Special Report” host Bret Baier.
We’re talking about a large girl interview, folks, so grab the popcorn and get ready for one real interview with a real journalist.
As reported on Monday from the New York Times:
The interview with Fox News’ main political host Bret Baier will take place near Philadelphia on Wednesday, just before it airs on Mr. Baier’s show “Special Report” at 6 p.m. Eastern time. Ms. Harris is expected to answer questions for 25 to 30 minutes, the network said.
Who would have thought that a few days ago?
From the start, Harris has run away from legitimate interviews like they were the plague, opting instead to sit with media-friendly types who just asked softball questions without challenging her with their canned answers, including the monotone “So I do.” .” was born into a middle-class family.
For Harris Finally Putting on your big-girl pantsuit and sitting with a journalist of the caliber of Bret Baier is extraordinary, and that means her campaign officials must be, too extremely frightened about their fading prospects of winning the election.
Here’s more, via The Times:
This is Ms. Harris’s first formal interview with Fox News, whose daily programming is hefty on conservative subject matter, often explicitly supporting her Republican opponent, former President Donald J. Trump.
It could also represent an opportunity for the Democratic nominee three weeks before Election Day.
Ms. Harris will have a chance to convey her message to an audience that may be skeptical of her candidacy. Her willingness to appear on Fox News could reinforce the impression that she is open to tough questions. And it can reach a swath of independent voters, who, according to a Nielsen study, watch more Fox News than CNN or MSNBC.
Nice try, NYT – but that was pure leftist rhetoric aimed at putting a ecstatic face on the state of the Harris-Walz ticket. The “opportunity” is actually desperation, as I have already suggested.
In my not-so-humble opinion, Harris has no chance whatsoever of convincing regular Fox viewers of her radical left-wing views, especially if she has the courage to finally reveal them, which I doubt.
On the other hand, it was a bit of a surprise that the Times actually admitted that more independent voters watch Fox News than CNN and MSNBC.
The interview is scheduled to air on the same day that Fox is airing a town hall broadcast in which Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will answer questions to an all-female audience on topics such as abortion, child care and daycare centers.
So here’s the thing
As a skeptic when it comes to Kamala Harris, I wonder what concessions, if any, her campaign was able to extract from Fox or Baier. Taboo topics? No fact checking? Whatever the case may be, I don’t think Fox or Baier would agree to such nonsense.
