New York (AP) – Former Vice President Kamala Harris, who was forced to confront Israel’s war in Gaza on the first night of her bay tour.
“What happens to the Palestinian people is outrageous and my heart is cycling,” she said on Wednesday evening to a full New York City Performance Center after being interrupted by the first of four Pro-Palestinian demonstrators. “Donald Trump (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu gave an empty check to do what he wants.”
The comments came in a discussion about her novel book “107 Days”, which was published on Tuesday, and described the Hyperspeed campaign that she had started against Trump after Joe Biden from the President Racing had expired in 2024.
Harris was supposed to appear in the Times Square Performance Center of 1,500 people, but her team added a second show earlier due to great interest.
The nation – and the Democratic Party – divided only a few questions than the war in Israel.
Since the beginning of the war, more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed, the Gaza Ministry of Health said at the beginning of the month. The conflict broke out on October 7, 2023 after the Hamas attack.
Democratic activists in particular have convicted the leaders in both parties because they have not pushed back to stop brooding.
On Wednesday on Wednesday, Harris referred her support for the New York mayor candidate Zohran Mamdani, a democrat who also spoke out against the war in Gaza. She said the two spoke earlier a day.
She said she told him that she was “excited” about his candidacy.
“They bring people in and show that there are voices that want to be heard, have felt exuberant and are now part of what they are doing,” she said, referring to the conversation. “And that’s so powerful.”
Outside the event location, dozens of activists protested on the sidewalk. Inside, the event dissolved a few minutes after the start of a protest when a demonstrator screamed in front of the audience.
“Your legacy is genocide. The blood of the Palestinians lies in the hands,” screamed the first, a man who carries a medical mask before it is brought out by security. Later another woman said: “This is your fault.”
When the crowd got enraged with the disorders, Harris asked her to “lose weight”.
She noticed that as Vice President she spoke publicly about hunger in Gaza Strip for the first time a year and a half ago. At that time, she said, she took “a lot of heat” from the Biden administration because she had spoken out on the sensitive topic.
“I understand your concern and how you feel – I think I do that,” she told the third demonstrator. “And the reality is where we are not so that – in terms of the empty review that this president gave.”
She criticized Trump several times during the night. At some point she said that the Republican President and his allies were like a “communist dictatorship” to remove contradiction.
Shortly before the publication, Trump followed Harris on social media in an interview on social media that the loss of the 2024 presidential elections in the 21st century was closest. Harris repeated the claim on Wednesday in New York.
Trump described the former Vice President as “stupid as rock”.
“A total lie! I expect an apology. Thank you for your attention for this matter!” Trump wrote.
The United States does not choose the presidents through a referendum. In fact, Trump lost the referendum to Hillary Clinton in 2016 and still won the presidency on the election college.
Trump won the election college via Harris, 312-226. There have been two closer elections since 2000. George W. Bush’s closest profit against John Kerry in 2004.
Harris, who turns 61 next month, has not described her future plans in detail and was not asked about it from the book organizer. She has already given the opportunity to run for the governor of her home state of California.
There were decidedly mixed opinions about what she should do next – even among the hundreds that were packed in the event location of Times Square.
Valerie Lewis, 56, from New York City, said she was confident that the former Vice President could unite the poorly shared country. She said she would “love” Harris to run for the president again.
Lewis’ husband, the 65-year-old Eugene Dixon, wouldn’t do it.
“She can’t,” said Dixon. “I don’t think America is ready to have a president of a woman.”
Lewis twisted his eyes.
“It’s more difficult for a woman,” she said. “I don’t think it’s possible.”
