Has Kamala Harris lost the Teamsters union?

Teamsters Union President Sean O’Brien is not a cheerful man.

The Teamsters were denied a speaking opportunity at the Democratic convention. The large Democratic minds (yes, I know) who organized this event will not tell Mr. O’Brien why they denied him a speaking opportunity. His members, he claims, are not cheerful about it.

This is funny, because just a few weeks earlier, Sean O’Brien spoke at the Republican National Convention and was the first the President of the Teamsters Union ever.

O’Brien said he has been pleased with the growing support of Republicans since taking the union’s top job, including Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance and Senator Josh Hawley (R-Missouri).

“The Teamsters and the GOP may disagree on many issues, but a growing group has shown the courage to sit down and discuss viewpoints that are not funded by well-funded think tanks,” he said.

O’Brien was the first union leader to speak before the RNC and directly address the criticism leveled against him.

This is indeed an intriguing contrast. The major unions have been Democratic strongholds for decades. Since the Roosevelt years, they have been a constituency that Democrats have been able to rely on, but now they seem to be losing it through neglect. Is this intentional or just stupidity? There are good arguments for both. The left is losing the working class, and this is not just happening in the United States.

There are at least several reasons for this.

First, a gigantic portion of the working class does not agree with the “progressive” agenda and its results. They do not like paying $4 a gallon for gas. They do not want boys in their daughters’ locker rooms at schools or universities. They do not like the waves of illegal immigrants who are housed in hotels in many places at taxpayer expense.

Second, Trump. His stance on immigration and international trade resonates with workers who are experiencing the deindustrialization of the United States. He talks a lot about jobs, and he is Making progress at the base.

Of course, the Democrats will never lose the public sector or teachers unions. But that’s not enough. The Teamsters, the UAW, and the rank-and-file members of those unions see the current Democrats, and many of them don’t like what they see.

Don’t just take my word for it – listen to Sean O’Brien. On the subject of the DNC not allowing the Teamsters president to speak, Mr O’Brien said:

“I’m not upset about it, but I can tell you one thing: my rank-and-file members, who have been lifelong Democrats, are not happy about it,” he says.

That could make a difference in November, and more importantly, it could make a difference in the upcoming election, unless the Democrats distance themselves from the progressive, crazy left.
