Charleston, W.Va. (Wowk) – Hundreds on the stages of the West Virginia Capitol on Thursday evening to appreciate a conservative activist Charlie Kirk, eight days after he was shot at Utah Valley University during a debate.

The vigil with the title “Memory of Charlie Kirk: A call to courage” brought parishioners, state leaders and supporters to the Capitol intricate to think about Kirk’s life. Governor Patrick Morrisey and several political leaders of West Virginia shared the comments, while the participants prayed and offered testimonies about what his death meant for them.

“I hope we can do it in peace and love and learn not to agree and still be friends,” said one participant. “I have a lot of friends on Facebook who are Republican, democratic, and we decide to be friends at the end of the day. I wish the country would learn that.”

Representatives of Turning Point USA, the non -profit organization Kirk founded in 2012, also took part in the vigil. On Thursday, the organization announced that Kirk’s wife Erika Kirk will be the fresh CEO of the organization.

Kirk had been at Utah Valley University for his “American Comeback” Speaking tour and discussed political and religious questions.
