We are almost halfway of the legislative period. So let’s take a little look at what our legislators did.
Sen. Eric Tarr, R-Putnam, strikes with Senate Bill 109 The residents incentive to report the police through drug activities by offering reward money.
The Narc money for your neighbor for the money law – I mean the neighborhood support and the rejuvenation younger law – would come from a novel consumption tax on naloxone and drug test strips.
Tarr said that the state could market the program by publishing the searches of people who were convicted of drug crimes in areas with high drug activity. He said his inspiration Came after seeing “body of bridges” in a report on Cartels in Mexico.
Please do not have this guy watched “The Handmaid’s Tale”.
The taxation of products with which people should not die do not seem to be the answer here. Narcan, one of the brand names for naloxone, is already unaffordable for some people. And while there are groups that provide both naloxone and drug test strips free of charge, why should we then make it more exorbitant to aid people?
Instead of shaping the people condemned for drug crimes and asking their neighbors, spying on and separating them, the state should perhaps consider not forbidden to reduce damage? Instead of helping people instead of shame, the more humane option seems to be.
Another draft law that seems tough for West Virginians is life House bill 3016.
The state passed a law about the voters in 2016 and when it came into force two years later, the residents were able to prove who could demonstrate them with more than a dozen different forms of identification as a driver’s license, including a hunting or fishing license, a supply invoice or their social security card.
HB 3016 Would remove most of these forms of identification and reduce it to six – everyone requests a photo: driver’s license, state ID, passport, employee ID, student ID and military ID. The main sponsor of this calculation is del. Erica Moore, R-Roane.
The bill also adds that a valid voter registration card “The voter photo issued by a district writer in the state of West Virginia or the foreign minister” works. Of course, the legislators also said during a meeting that this is not necessary and would be with every County employee if they wanted to create and exhibit voter registration cards with photos.
This will only add another layer to confuse the vote. Am I registered? Where is my polling station? Is my registration energetic? Which ID do I need? What kind of voter registration card does my district have?
Absence lists are also not certain. House bill 2117 Would make it illegal for everyone – including an election officer, to email or deliver the voice votes, unless it was expressly requested by the voter or his family/caregiver.
Six Republicans considered this to be a great idea that they sponsored the law: Doug Smith (Mercer), Mike Hornby (Berkeley), Geno Chiarelli (Monongalia), Chris Phillips (Barbour), Michael Hite (Berkeley) and Kathie Hess Crouse (Putnam).
Why is one Application For an absent ballot, something that should require consent?
Don’t you want us to be right?
Another head scratch comes from Senator Mike Stuart, R-Kanawha. His bill would Set the death penalty again in West Virginia for people who were convicted of murder to a law enforcement officer or first aid. It has a price of $ 26 million. In the past 45 years, only 21 people would have been an option for the death penalty. It is strange to me that Stuart, who says he’s “Unapologist table for life”Wants the state to spend around $ 1.2 million per state-sanctioned murder.
But at least he knows the money costs of his bill. That is more than we can say House bill 2515What the counties would require to Create alternative learning centers for chronically disturbing students. The draft law of senior sponsor del. Joe Ellington, R-Mercer, went to the Senate, but has not proposed a financing for the construction of the centers or the staff. Details, details.
Today is the 28th day of 60. Will the legislator do better in the second half of the session? For West Virginians I hope that I hope.
