The internet is abuzz Thursday night/Friday morning as news broke that Vice President Kamala Harris abruptly canceled her trip to California while President Joe Biden returned to the White House from his vacation in Delaware.
Fox News LA’s Elex Michaelson said there is currently no explanation for the vice president’s sudden change of plans:
Vice President Kamala Harris canceled her trip to Los Angeles at the last minute this evening and returned to the White House.
It’s not clear why.

However, he suspected that Harris had returned in case she needed to be a decisive voice in the ongoing budget negotiations saga:

But that wouldn’t explain why Biden also appears to have returned from one of his endless leisure trips. What role would he play in the negotiations, given that he is currently largely an undetectable president? An X account called @basedmikelee supposedly the personal account The Republican senator from Utah wondered if something was afoot:

Vice President Kamala Harris canceled plans to fly to Los Angeles on Thursday evening.
According to the White House, Harris was scheduled to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday at 11:35 p.m. But midday Thursday, her office announced that she “will not travel to Los Angeles, California and will remain in Washington, DC.”

The reasons for Biden’s return weren’t clear either:
President Biden returns to the White House from Delaware on Thursday evening amid a partial government shutdown looming.
According to his official schedule, Biden is scheduled to arrive in Washington at 5:30 p.m.
A bipartisan spending package appears doomed after President-elect Trump criticized its contents, particularly a Pay raises for members of Congress and the lack of a provision to comply with the country’s debt ceiling. The national debt is currently $36.1 trillion.
Congress has until midnight Friday to pass a bill to prevent a shutdown.
He looked rushed and strange as he shuffled cautiously across the White House lawn with Jill and his grandson Beau, mostly ignoring reporters shouting questions at him.
