In perhaps the least shocking revelation in political history, Tim Walz appears to have lied again, this time about his political background.
Almost immediately after Kamala Harris’s running mate burst onto the national stage, so did Walz’s penchant for fabulism. As RedState reported, he has repeatedly stolen proof of bravery over the years, from claiming he carried weapons “in war” to claiming he was a retired command sergeant major when he was demoted for failing to complete required training.
Walz’s lies did not end with this scandal, however. He also misled the public on a number of other issues to bolster his political career. For example, while falsely attacking Republicans, the governor of Minnesota claimed that his children were conceived through artificial insemination. This was not true. Walz also claimed that he had received an award from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce. This was not the case, and he had to send a cease-and-desist letter of sorts.
This guy even lies about really stupid things. After being put on the list, Walz appeared in a scripted video claiming he likes “white man tacos” and nothing hotter than black pepper. Funnily enough, he had posted on social media two years earlier bragging about winning a cooking contest by making a zingy taco dish with chili powder.
You get what I mean. This guy is Joe Biden’s protégé when it comes to sugarcoating his past, and his self-proclaimed political origin story is no different. According to Walz, he was just a clueless high school teacher who took two students to a George W. Bush rally for “educational purposes.” It wasn’t until he was denied entry to the rally that he was inspired to eventually run for Congress and make change. You know, the typical crap politicians come up with.
The problem is that different parts of his story don’t fit together. According to the Washington ExaminerWalz was not with two of his students (one was a political activist) when he attended the rally And Despite his claims that he was being persecuted, he was allowed to enter the country.
For one thing, Walz was admitted to the Bush rally, according to a trusted source who insisted on anonymity to discuss the August 2004 event. The two teenagers Walz came with, Matt Klaber and Nick Burkhart, were not his students, who Washington Examiner confirmed.
In addition, the youths were denied entry to the event following an altercation that made headlines on the local news earlier this week – which led to them initially being denied tickets.
And while Walz framed While Walz described the dispute as the “moment I decided to run for office” because he was “never overly involved in political campaigns,” evidence suggests that Walz was already politically lively at the time: He participated a few days earlier in an anti-Bush protest outside the 2004 Bush rally in Mankota, Minnesota, on August 4, a Picture confirmed.
It is also noteworthy that on the sign he held before the same rally, he claimed to be a veteran of the Afghanistan war.
A photo The photo was taken by then-Minnesota Republican state consultant Michael Brodkorb and shows Walz before the rally clutching a sign that reads “Enduring Freedom Veterans for Kerry.”
The title “Enduring Freedom” famously refers to people who served in Afghanistan – something Walz never did. Walz spent time in Italy and Norway supporting NATO forces. The 24-year veteran of the Army National Guard did not take part in combat operations.
Regardless, it seems pretty clear what Walz was doing. He didn’t go there to provide some students with an educational experience that didn’t make sense anyway. He went there to create an origin story that he could then exploit to his advantage while running for office.
The situation is very similar to his stolen valor scandal. Both involved Walz pretending to be more than he was. It wasn’t enough for him to be a monotonous assistant coach. He had to be the huge, bad soldier who had “carried guns in war” when he was kicked out of a rally by George W. Bush. So he set out to make that narrative a reality, and the press believed it uncritically for decades. It wasn’t until conservative media started digging deeper that the litany of falsehoods was revealed.
What else will come out about Walz? That is a question that is always being asked at the moment.
