The House Oversight Committee held a hearing Thursday on problems with the U.S. Census.

Chairman James Comer (R-KY) pointed out that the errors in the 2020 Census were surprising! – tended to benefit Democrats.

“The Census Bureau’s post-enumeration survey — which measures census accuracy — uncovered significant errors in 14 states. These errors primarily benefited Democratic-leaning states in allocating congressional seats and Electoral College votes.

“Unlike the 2020 Census, the 2010 Census did not identify any states with such errors.

“In 2020, the Post-Enumeration Survey indicates that there were overcounts in New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Delaware, Minnesota, Utah and Ohio. And there were undercounts in Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee and Illinois.

Six of the eight statess tended to benefit from overcounting in favor of the Democrats in the allocation of votes in Congress and the Electoral College.

“In the meantime, five of the six states That was youpunished unfairly due to undercounts tended to vote for it republican. [….]

“Based on the 2020 post-enumeration poll, it is likely that miscounts resulted in Colorado gaining a seat it would not have won otherwise, and Rhode Island and Minnesota each retaining a seat they would have lost .”

Meanwhile, Texas and Florida probably should have won one seat each.

“It is imperative that we understand what went wrong with the 2020 Census and take steps to mitigate the risk of similar errors in the 2030 Census.”

One problem is that illegal aliens and noncitizens are counted in the census, meaning they can have an influence on voters’ votes. It is something that needs to be addressed seriously to ensure adequate representation of each state.

But Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) had a comment during the hearing with the Census Bureau director that was something different. Although she hasn’t been in office that long, only since January 2023, she has already made a name for herself for her tirades in Congress. In November, she went on a viral tirade claiming that there has been “no white male oppression in this country.”

Her comments during that hearing also focused on race.

Crockett discussed the Texas census numbers, saying that four million people were added to the 2020 count, but only 180,000 were Anglos.

She argued that most of the people added were people of color, and Texas added two fresh seats:

So they took these black, brown and Asian bodies. And do you think we got a fresh black, brown or Asian seat? Somehow the way they do their Republican math in the state of Texas resulted in two fresh white seats. Guess what? White Republican seats. We got two fresh Republican seats. Of 4 million people of color. Let me tell you, they love using our bodies to divide us up in inexact ways.

Oh my God. Where should I start with this? Talk about disgusting language. Many people thought what she said was racist.

Let’s start with the fact that we have no seats based on race in this county. There is neither a “white seat” nor a “black seat.” People win their seats through the vote of the people. Americans of all races elect people of all races. And surprisingly, many people of color vote Republican.

Perhaps she and the Democrats could learn a lesson from this and from the recent election – that people of all races want answers and solutions; They voted with the belief that Republicans would do better for it. Many people of color voted for President-elect Donald Trump. Trump has historically done well, as CNN’s Harry Enten pointed out.

Many voters also rejected the Democrats’ divisive identity politics like those pushed by Crockett.

I think she wanted to comment on gerrymandering. If she wants to correct apportionment errors, she should support Republican efforts to keep an exact count. But I don’t expect her to do that anytime soon.
